Job summary The post holder will practice autonomously within the designated speciality area to provide patient centred care.
The Advanced Clinical Neurophysiologist will be required to independently carry out highly specialist clinical neurophysiology investigations within an agreed scope of practice, centred around peripheral neurophysiology; electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees, agencies, service users and their carers and families.
The post holder will lead the on-going development of clinical practice and standards of care for their area within the service, including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues working in accordance with trust policies, procedures and guidelines and will be responsible for completing any work-based training associated with the role.
Main duties of the job *Interpret EMG and NCS results and recognise if further testing required to reach a diagnosis or if further investigations for patients presenting to neurophysiology with highly complex pathologies.
*Undertake advanced interpretation of results or expansion of test criteria.
*Able to use highly complex equipment.
*Undertakes nerve conduction tests on wards and ITU with autonomous decision making and providing feedback to refers without a consultant present.
*Contribute to investigations into any complaints regarding the service and report findings to department manager in accordance with local procedure.
*Provide independent high quality clinical reports for peripheral neurophysiology performed.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential * Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body (AHCS).
* Master's level Qualification in specific speciality.
* Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner (Neurophysiology), MSc Clinical Physiology.
* BSc Hons Clinical Physiology.
* Association of Neurophysiologist Scientist Membership (ANS) * Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Experience Essential * A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice.
* Significant post registration experience at a senior level in neurophysiology, having carried out a full range of highly complex investigations in all modalities in neurophysiology.
* Ability to perform EMG/NCS studies independently.
* Expert knowledge of a full range of procedures specific to peripheral neurophysiology.
* A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision Evidence of line management experience.
* Knowledge of the national and local NHS healthcare agenda and its impact implications Service Development experience.
* Knowledge & evidence of research/audit processes and application Working with wide range of IT systems.
* Working with a range of specialist neurophysiology equipment.
* Evidence / experience of working in an MDT within a health care provider service * Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team/providing supervision to others * Awareness of current relevant NHS policies.
* Understanding/experience of the principles of safeguarding and mental capacity.
