Job summary This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Haematology/BMT Clinical Nurse Specialist with strong clinical and leadership skills to take on the role of the BMT Coordinators Team Lead.
You will be organised, proactive and have specialist knowledge in the coordination of allogeneic stem cell transplants and management of subsequent complications.
The team coordinate pre and post-transplant care of allograft patients at UHB, performing in the region of 100 allografts a year.
You will line manage a small team of BMT Coordinators and BMT Administrator, supported by the Post-Transplant BMT CNS, Haematology Lead Nurse, Haematology Matron, and BMT Consultants.
You will need to have completed an advanced health assessment course.
You will be supported to further your clinical skills as a non-medical prescriber, undertaking nurse led Late Effects clinics and performing skin biopsies.There will be opportunities to participate in research and clinical audit, and you will be supported to submit your work to national and international conferences, such as EBMT.
You will contribute towards the Trust haematology education programme, take an active role in ensuring JACIE/HTA requirements are maintained and BMT Governance.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to:*Provide line management to a small team of BMT Coordinators*Provide expert advice and support to teams, staff and patients*Oversee the pre-transplant coordination of allografts*Support post-transplant consultant led clinics*Provide expert advice, support and education to patients and families*Provide telephone support and triage unwell patients post-transplant*Provide nurse led Late Effects clinics*Be a registered non-medical prescriber, or be willing to work towards*Contribute towards the Trust haematology education programme*Ensure JACIE standards and HTA requirements are maintained*Assist in preparations for and participate in JACIE inspections*Contribute to BMT Governance meetings*Participate in clinical audit and research,*Contribute towards service development*Maintain relationships with external colleagues at Anthony Nolan, referring centres and NHSBTThe post requires ongoing communication with external colleagues and so you will be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
You will act as a first point of contact for patients and families, and will need to communicate complex or difficult information in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
Ideally you will have completed advanced communication training.
But here will also be opportunities to undertake training for the role including Level 2 psychology training.

*Experience in service development *Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment *Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients / relatives/ care staff *Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality *Has understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding *Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance *Understanding of JACIE standards and HTA requirements *To be competent in the administration of cellular therapy *To be competent in the administration of systemic anti-cancer treatment *Care of patients receiving palliative diagnosis/ treatments and bad news *Experience of telephone triage and prioritisation and escalation of unwell patients out of hospital Desirable *Patient / user involvement and advocacy role *Awareness of current research related to the speciality Additional Criteria Essential *Ability to balance clinical caseload and managing a team *Report writing and presentation skills *Ability to communicate with a wide range of health care professionals, on a variety of complex and sensitive issues which require persuasive and empathetic skills.
*Ability to work autonomously, manage / prioritise own workload *Competent in a range of clinical skills and expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required.
