Job summary Junior Sister/Charge Nurse in Opthalmology Out Patients Department .This is a busy department incorporating Out Patient clinics with Opthalmologists and specialist opthalmic services.The department operates a Monday to Friday service 8am to 6pm .This is an excellent department encomapassing a nurturing and supportive environment to work within.
There are ample opportunities to develop your skills and acquire specialist knowledge .A full training package will be provided for the successful candidate.I am looking for an experienced and dynamic Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse .Someone who can hit the ground running with established and proven management skills .I require a deputy who will support and provide inspirational ideas and suggestions to imprve the department and support the staff .A Band 6 who is familiar with Quality Assurance and Quality Improvements .Willing to take on board clinical audits and present the findings .To display initiative and innovation without being prompted .In return you will be supported by the Senior Sister and Matron for the division .This is an excellent opportunity to join a great team.
Main duties of the job Deputise for the Senior Sister in her absence .Manage Allocate Roster SystemsManage Sickness and Absence .On a day to day basis , run the Nurse in Charge desk , create the daily staff Allocations and triage the Opthalmology referrals until 5pm each day .If you are Opthalmology trained you will be required to participate in clinical duties when you are not Nurse in Charge .If you are not Opthalmology trained you will be requird to carry out other clinical duties to support the department.

Job description Job responsibilities *Please Note : For a detailed job description for this vacancy, please see attached Job Description* Person Specification Qualifications Essential *Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register Desirable *Health care management / leadership qualification *Ophthalmology trained/experience/Interest in speciality Experience Essential *Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD *Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff *Experience of mentoring undergraduate students *Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department *Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
