King's College Hospital NHS Foundation TrustAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated band 6 dietitian, with excellent communication skills, to work within the Gastroenterology service at the Denmark Hill site of King's College Hospital. The dietetic gastroenterology team comprises of a Band 8a, two band 7 dietitians, and this band 6 post.
Nutrition and Dietetics is part of a large Therapy department with over 300 Therapists that provide a service under a supportive management structure consisting of Head of Department and a Chief of Therapies. The department places a strong emphasis on the learning environment and ensures that staff have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge to their full potential.
The successful post holder will work closely with all members of the MDT to provide an expert Nutrition and Dietetic service to our patients.
You will play an integral role in the large, supportive dietetic team at KCH. Our Nutrition and Dietetics department expects all staff to be involved in the teaching of other healthcare professionals, in line with our mission to provide excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching in King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will deliver weekly gastroenterology outpatient clinics, providing dietary advice for a variety of functional bowel disorders, including education on the Low FODMAP diet. They will manage a dedicated gastrointestinal and colorectal surgical inpatient caseload, providing expert dietetic advice to patients' peri and post-operatively. This includes effectively tailoring dietetic advice for patients who have had complex intestinal surgery, according to their current clinical status. You will integrate within the MDT and create robust links between the medical and dietetic teams.
You will play an integral role in the large, supportive dietetic team at King's College Hospital. Our dietetic department expects all staff to be involved in service development project work, audit, and teaching of other healthcare professionals. We also undertake student training, and you would play an active role in student supervision. The department supports flexible working under the King's Flex system.
Job responsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of work in compliance with the ethical code of practice set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).To actively manage a caseload of outpatient and inpatient gastroenterology patients, assessing and managing their dietary needs while working closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.To attend appropriate clinics and multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert evidence-based nutritional support and advice to clinicians, patients, and carers.To work with the dietetic and multi-disciplinary team responsible for the development and provision of an evidence-based dietetic service to the patients, carers, and staff of Kings College Hospital in Gastroenterology.People Management and Performance Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognized and underperformance is addressed.Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.Ensure the team is compliant with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationsBSc/ Post graduate diploma in Nutrition and DieteticsHCPC RegisteredMember of BDA Gastroenterology GroupKnowledge and ExperienceSound experience of oral and enteral nutrition supportExperience of the management of functional disordersExperience of the management of patients who have undergone complex intestinal surgeryNHS experience in the acute settingLow FODMAP trainedCompetencies and attributesAble to set priorities and meet daily deadlinesAble to deal with distressed patients and their relativesDisclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
