Job summary An exciting new opportunity has arisen across our Birmingham Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital sites to recruit to a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within our dynamic and experienced acute Speech and Language therapy team.Individuals seeking to develop advanced dysphagia and leadership skills, or a current Band 5 therapist seeking to progress within the acute setting would be ideal for this role.You will independently manage a caseload of adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, actively initiating and participating in the interdisciplinary decision-making around patient care and developing service delivery initiatives.The post holder, at times, may be required to work on any of our hospital sites within the Trust (Solihull, Heartlands, Good Hope).
Participation in our 7-day on-call service will also be required.Full-time and part-time positions are available, and we're open to discuss flexible working arrangements.For further information please contact:Asfa Bashir -- Clinical Team Lead for Speech and Language Therapy0121 424 0432 Main duties of the job This post will have a clinical focus on acute in-patient care across our general medical and elderly hospital wards across three hospital sites and is an excellent opportunity for a developing specialist with a clinical interest in acute care.You will be welcomed into a large and supportive therapy team with excellent training and development opportunities as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist staff and have access to regular videofluoroscopy & FEES clinics.
The successful candidate will have suitable post graduate clinical experience, demonstrable interest in acute care, with competency in both communication and dysphagia management.We encourage applications from people who embrace our values and who will enable us to expand our diverse workforce.

Applicants must also have good experience of close multi-professional working and must demonstrate excellent communication skills.
You must be able to manage and prioritise your own case load and have experience of supporting and supervising the work of therapy support workers/ assistants.

Job description Job responsibilities *Please Note : For a detailed job description for this vacancy, please see attached Job Description* Person Specification Qualifications Essential *Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent *Completion of RCSLT newly qualified practitioner competencies *Current registration with Health Professions Council *Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Desirable *Evidence of leadership training.
*Attendance at Clinical Educators Course.
*VF / FEES experience Experience Essential *Postgraduate experience in relevant clinical areas *Competence in advanced dysphagia and communication assessment and management *Well-established knowledge of assessment tools and a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group *Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group) Desirable *Experience of teaching SLT students *Experience of mentoring/ training junior staff *Experience of involvement in Clinical Governance/ Audit programme *Awareness of national drivers, policies and procedures (relevant to the client group) and their implications for SLT *Awareness of current research relevant to the client group *Understanding of the principles of clinical governance /audit Additional Criteria Essential *Competence in assessment of mental capacity *Negotiation and Problem solving Skills *Good analytical and reflection skills *Good organisational skill *Good prioritisation skills *Ability to work through interpreters to gain information on communication impairment/ability.

*An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations.
*Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within the clinical areas.
*Able to work cross site if the service requires *Post holders will be required to participate in therapies 7 day working rotas.
