Assistant Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in a fast-paced utilities company.
In this role, you'll handle daily financial tasks that support payroll processing, tax compliance, and subcontractor payments.
This position is vital in ensuring our financial operations run smoothly and accurately.
 Key Responsibilities - Payroll Management: Prepare and process payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely payment to all employees.
- PAYE and NI Compliance: Assist with PAYE and National Insurance actions, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Subcontractor Payments: Process payments for subcontractors, verifying invoices, and managing CIS deductions where applicable.
- VAT and Tax Filings: Support in preparing VAT returns, tax filings, and reconciling accounts to maintain compliance with financial regulations.
- General Ledger Support: Maintain accurate records in the general ledger, including data entry and reconciliation of accounts.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
- Administrative Support: Provide ad-hoc support to the finance team, including file management and responding to financial queries.
 Requirements - Qualifications: AAT qualified or studying towards an accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
- Experience: Previous experience in an accounting role, ideally within utilities, construction, or a similar industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with payroll and tax software is advantageous.
Previous experience of the COINS software would also be an advantage.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Communication Skills: Able to effectively communicate with team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
