Responsibilities: To be an integral part of the surgical process, working in the operating theatre assisting doctors and accompanying patients.
Ensuring that the operating theatre has been sterilised and preparing the necessary equipment for the operation.
Assisting the surgeon and anaesthetist throughout the surgery with various tasks.
Act appropriately in emergencies or stressful situations.
To update regularly on cardiac arrest, fire procedures and mandatory training.
To have andimplement a full knowledge and practical skills in relation to infection control.
Ensure registration and revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is updated and registration active continuously.
It is the responsibility of the registered nurse to ensure registration is confirmed on revalidation and can provide evidence to their employer.
To work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Professional Conduct or relevant professional guidelines and for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for: To be the designated practitioner to look after patient pre and second stage post-anaesthesia in the recovery/ward area.
To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the recovery room/ward area.
To promote and participate in the implementation of the Nursing & Midwifery strategy: Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice; To admit, recover patients on second stage post-anaesthesia and discharge patients home as appropriate.
To participate in the delivery of patients care in recovery room/ward area, treatment room, Embryo Transfer/Intrauterine Insemination room as appropriate.
The role will include preparing medicine, performing medicine and equipment checks, stock management, checking patients are safely prepared for theatre, admissions and patient transfers to recovery.
Audit, Quality and Risk Management Responsibilities: To maintain awareness of national, professional, and local quality issues relevant to delivery of patient care.
To uphold quality initiatives that improves customer care and enhance the interface between staff, patients, and visitors.
To lead/assist in the audit process for monitoring and reviewing nursing quality in recovery/ward area.
To identify potential risks for all personnel, patients, andvisitors, taking appropriate action/advice.
To promote the role of recovery practitioner in handling complaints in accordance with local policy.
