Amfaces Research Project Manager

Details of the offer

The EPSRC is funding a 5-year multidisciplinary project, entitled "AMFaces: Advanced Additive Manufacturing of User-Focused Facial Prostheses with Real-Life Colour Appearance" led by Professor D. H. Foster (PI) in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).
The Department is in a new single-site Engineering Building, the Nancy Rothwell Building, in the University of Manchester (UoM), unrivalled in scale in the UK as a hub of engineering expertise.
The project involves a multi-institutional collaboration between UoM (EEE, Medical Sciences, and Materials), King's College London (Oral, Clinical and Translational Sciences), Manchester Metropolitan University (Life Sciences), Leeds University (Mechanical Engineering), and Nottingham University (Engineering).
A new approach is needed urgently to deliver consistent high-quality prostheses to patients in a timely and cost-effective manner.
To meet these challenges, a multidisciplinary team of experts and early career researchers (ECRs) has been brought together: clinicians in maxillofacial and oral surgery and scientists and engineers in 3D printing (additive manufacturing or AM), reconstructive science, biomaterials, colour science, and imaging.
The tight integration of research by the team is central to achieving the project's goal, enabling the prompt delivery of bespoke ultra-realistic facial prostheses on demand.
The results of the research will be delivered mainly through two NHS Foundation Trusts (Manchester University and Guy's and St Thomas', London) and will support regional NHS networks for prosthetic services and charities.
Work will take place with local SMEs to facilitate sustainable research development and further investment.
Technological innovations will be shared with the clinical, scientific, and engineering communities, especially with developing countries with limited resources.
Reporting to the Project Support Operations Manager and the PI, the Research Project Manager will be responsible for the administration of the project.
The post holder will ensure tasks are carried out in a timely manner with a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and in accordance with all UoM policies and procedures.
We are committed to creating a fully inclusive and flexible culture, one where everyone can realise their potential and make a positive contribution to our organisation.
We believe that if we can positively diversify our staff, we will be able to collaborate more effectively and create a more productive environment.
If you think you will be a good fit for this role, we look forward to hearing from you!
What you will get in return: Fantastic market leading Pension scheme Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays Additional paid closure over the Christmas period Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers The School of Engineering is strongly committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN Charter for gender equality in higher education.
