About the APST project You will join us as a Youth Justice Key Worker as part of a multi-disciplinary team (called the Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce) which will be providing support to the 7 mainstream secondary schools in Crawley.
The multidisciplinary team will offer support for students at risk of permanent exclusion, as well as wrap-around support to the family and school.
Furthermore, the team will support the schools with their whole-school inclusion support, adapting to their individual needs and contexts.
The team will work together and with other agencies to provide holistic support and planning.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop skills including multi-agency and partnership working, and to be a part of developing new and innovative ways of working.You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary APST team 5 days a week, but you will remain a part of a substantive Youth Justice Team.
Your attendance at Youth Justice CPD, team meetings, supervision, and other Youth Justice events will be fully supported throughout this role.This is a project, which is being funded until the end of December 2025, at which point we will need to show that we have been successful, therefore we will be guided by specific aims and objectives which are currently under development.

The Opportunity Salary: NJC Grade 8 £31,586 - £34,314 per annum, including Crawley Weighting Allowance £561 per annumContract Type: Fixed Term or Secondment.

You will be a professional who practices effectively with good assessments, judgement skills and able to manage caseloads confidently under limited supervision, demonstrating engagement skills and creative interventions to allow children and young people to reach their full potential.You will be part of a multi-agency team, embedded in local schools.
Flexibility in developing working practices as part of this team, as well as having ambition to develop and shape the teams practices, will help you to succeed in this role.You will be collaborating closely with families and schools, aiming to support them with working towards positive changes and managing safeguarding concerns robustly.
You value and listen to the voice of the child/children, which in turn informs the planning and work undertaken to improve outcomes for children and reduce the risk of offending.
Establishing effective working relationships is a key skill you will need, as you will be working closely with colleagues from other external agencies.You will need strong resilience skills as this role can be sensitive and challenging, but also extremely positive, bettering the lives of children and their families.There may be some requirement to work flexibly out of office hours to assist families.
About You If you have the relevant experience and would like to join our APST Project to further develop your skills, we would love to hear from you.We are looking for: Ability to listen to adults and children who have experienced trauma and have complex needs, and to use excellent interpersonal skills to build an effective relationship with the families.Analytical and judgmental skills to interpret complex situations and information from families to make assessments.Ability to build rapport quickly with people participating in services and remain up to date with changes in best practice and available support mechanisms.Ability to accurately record information in Excel spreadsheets and web databases.Relevant qualification, degree level preferably, in a relevant subject, or demonstrable experience in a paid or unpaid capacity of providing support to people in stressful and difficult situations.Demonstrable experience of working with families in crisis in order to provide support, especially those with complex and chronic difficulties.Experience of working in a team environment and multi-agency working.Experience of applying relevant legislation, policies and procedures to individual pieces of work.Valid and full driving licence.
