Job Title: Service Manager Salary: £36,493 - £39,374 1.
Service Management and Development a)Manages the achievement of performance targets, compliance with service level agreements and the effective delivery of services.
b)Compiles and analyses service performance data and supplies with appropriate reports to the Area Manager in accordance with specified deadlines.
c)Ensures functionality of management reporting structures such that services operate effectively without micro management and/or in the absence of the post holder.
d)Ensure service aims, objectives and business plans are in place and that these are reflected in individual workplans e)Identifies service gaps and areas of underperformance and ensures that these shortcomings are rectified promptly.
f)Identifies opportunities for business development that are consistent with the strategic objectives of the organisation and uses professional contacts/networks to exploit these (to the benefit of Aquarius).
g)Manages the application of IT facilities ensuring that the service benefits from the best available data recording and communication systems.
h)Contributes to tender submissions, taking a prominent role when requested/necessary.
i)Takes a major role in the negotiation of contract renewals with commissioners and funders and achieves outcomes beneficial to the organisation.
j)Project manages the implementation of new services, funding and business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives to specified deadlines.
k)Ensures Senior Practitioners are appropriately supported in the development of clinical/professional practice.
l)Liaises with commissioners, other key stakeholders and service users to develop local strategies; ensure that services are responsive and compliant to local, established and emerging needs.
m)Works in partnership with commissioners, acting as the day to day lead for the service in financial, operational and practice matters.
n)Participates in service reviews and provides written service reports.
o)Ensures accurate and appropriate case recording as well as the professional maintenance of records and statistics as required for commissioners, other agencies, clients and internal purposes/management reports.
p)Ensure services are appropriately promoted externally and that partnerships between Aquarius, voluntary and statutory agencies are established and the benefits maximised.
q)Manages all aspects of the service within established budgets and financial targets.
r)Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
s)Ensures the development, monitoring and reporting of quality standards and systems are in place eg data collection, client satisfaction, annual service reviews, ISO 9001, IIP.
t)Ensures the management of risk within the service, the adherence to health and safety legislation and policy and the maintenance of the premises and any equipment.

2.Management of Staff a)Effectively manages the resourcing, retention, training, motivation and performance of direct reports and provides appropriate line management to these.
b)Develops direct reports to meet service needs and ensures they can maximise their potential and progress their careers with Aquarius.
c)Ensures the effective resourcing, retention, development, training, motivation and performance management of all staff, students and volunteers within the team.
d)Ensures all staff receive appropriate supervision as required by the organisation.
e)Identifies problems associated with staffing, including employee underperformance and deploys appropriate strategies and problem solving techniques to achieve acceptable outcomes.
f)Ensures compliance to all organisational policies and procedures including disciplinary, sickness absence, health and safety, child protection and vulnerable adults and ensure that these are followed by the direct reports.
g)Maintains effective and efficient working practices based on sound organisational systems and professional time management of self and subordinates.
Applies similar disciplines to the operation of team working; promotes professional and effective working relationships.
h)Practices progressive and effective employee communication strategies.
3.Client Work a)Undertake, as agreed with the Area Manager for your service, alcohol or drug related assessments with individuals, couples or families provide structured group and individual interventions, using an agreed range of skills and methods, incorporating: a functional model of alcohol and substance misuse a stage based model of change a cognitive behavioural framework 4.Training and Education a)Ensure the planning, organising and delivery of alcohol education and training courses.
b)Ensure the provision of information and promotion of safer drinking in the community.
c)Ensure the provision of accurate and relevant information about the service and alcohol and its effects to professionals, the general public and potential clients.

General a)Develops and maintains an up-to-date professional knowledge of developments in the alcohol, drug, gaming and criminal justice fields and an awareness of local/regional needs.
b)Operates within the collective responsibility of a senior manager at Aquarius and appreciates when to subordinate local and personal considerations to the broader needs of the Organisation.
Understands, upholds and works within the ethos, aims and objectives of Aquarius.
c)Undertakes delegated tasks from the Chief Executive and Area Manager and deputises for same as and when requested.
d)Represents the organisation, raises its profile and promotes its cause.
e)Contributes to management meetings and other management initiatives.
f)Prepares for and participates in supervision and appraisals as required by the organisation.
Maintains professional and personal self awareness.
Identifies own training and professional development needs.
g)Notifies the Area Manager or Chief Executive of any occurrences which may affect the service, both at a professional and administrative level.
h)Provide written records and reports as required by the organisation.
i)Travels throughout the geographical area(s) covered by the services and for training courses, conferences and other events.
Terms and Conditions The post is full-time for 37 hours per week.
There is a growing demand to provide a flexible service to meet client need and therefore there will be an expectation to vary the hours of work as required by the service.
The exact pattern of work will be determined by service need and may be subject to change.
The job role and location may be subject to change depending on the needs of the organisation and commissioning requirements.
Holiday entitlement is 32 days, plus 8 Bank Holidays.
