Job summary We are looking for a Ward Manager tojoin our friendly nursing team within our Adult Services Directorate in Torbay toprovide operational leadership for Salus Ward.You will becomepart of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, using your skills, experience andleadership to help define and deliver a package of care to people on one of ourmixed gender wards that helps them on their road to recovery.
The role isdynamic and challenging and we are looking for someone who is highly motivated,innovative and enthusiastic who can demonstrate an eagerness for the on-goingdevelopment of the service.As a Ward Manager,you will need excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure collaborativework with patients, utilising the well-being and recovery model, to provide thehighest quality of care.You will have theconfidence and skills to support your team to respond to both the physical andmental well-being needs of your patients in partnership with amulti-disciplinary team and be a strong advocate for your patients.
Thesuccessful candidate will need to demonstrate sound experience of riskassessment and management and will be committed to the principles of patientand carer involvement; as well as showing expertise in budgetary management andbeing able to understand and meet performance criteria.
Main duties of the job You will be aRegistered Nurse (Mental Health) with post registration experience, includingsignificant experience in a Band 6 position.

The role involves communication, so we expectthat you have excellent verbal and written skills.Interactingwith patients and the public you will be confident in giving non-clinicalinformation and advice that improves their experience.

You will oftenwork under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking forsomeone confident and capable.
You will prioritise tasks, and manage your ownworkload, providing support for your colleagues where required.You will becomean important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receiveshigh quality care.
You may be required to support the induction of new staffmember, demonstrating activities to them and providing supervision to supportadministrators.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Post Registration Qualification and experience in a health or social care subject.
( RMN, Social Work, OT, Psychology).
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable Recognised management training and qualification or willingness to work toward it.
Training to Level 3 in Safeguarding children, young people and adults: roles and competencies for Health Care staff.
Skills and Abilities Essential Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead change and motivate staff.
Ability to interact therapeutically with distressed persons.
Ability to manage conflict.
Able to produce well written reports.
Supervisory skills.
Ability to comprehend and utilise experience within the team Analyse complex information and interpret to facilitate management action.
Ability to undertake risk management.
Ability to produce effective care plans.
Ability to plan and produce service development plans.
Project Management skills.
Highly developed organisational skills.
Budget planning and setting.

Trained in Physical Intervention.
Experience Essential At least four years post registration, at least two years at Band 6 in an Acute Inpatient setting.
Experience of managing other staff.
Experience of the care of mentally ill people in an acute setting.
Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Clinical supervision and mentoring experience.
Knowledge Essential Leading, supporting and developing teams.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 & 2005, Codes of Practice, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberties.
Clinical supervision.
NMC Code of Conduct.
Care programme approach.
Current developments in mental health care and nursing practice Treat patients with dignity and respect.
Able to assess plan treatment and review nursing care needs, supervise other in the same.
Recognise performance issues on the ward and how to address them Motivated to promote highest standards in a changing service.
