Main Purpose of the Job The Global Head of R&D will lead and oversee our global R&D sites in Europe and China.
This senior leadership role requires strategic, scientific and operational oversight and experience across all R&D-related functions and the ability to manage and support local R&D Managers to ensure the efficiency, safety, profitability and sustainability of all process R&D activities.
Your role will involve leading process research & development scale fostering innovation across different locations.
In addition, the Global Head of R&D will play a major role in communicating Biosynth's global scientific capabilities to solve complex synthetic problems using regular publications, webinars and poster & presentation channels Key Responsibilities Lead a global team based on multiple sites of multidisciplinary teams including synthetic chemistry, bioconjugation and polymer-based drug delivery and enzyme development Oversee and support workforce planning, including recruitment, training, and development Build leadership and technical expertise across global teams, ensuring talent development is a priority Ensures that new, robust, cost effective, safe and scalable chemical processes are developed and documented in a timely manner according to the project plan and within the cost budget Is involved in strategic client meetings discussing RFPs and potential service projects Biosynth is considering acting as a Biosynth R&D brand ambassador building initial trust with potential new clients Develop and execute a comprehensive R&D strategy across all sites, aligned with business objectives, market demands, and scientific advancements Work with our teams to support biocatalyst solutions to synthetic chemical challenges Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and advancements in the pharma and diagnostic industries Take ownership of the Chemistry, Bioconjugation and Enzyme Scientific Excellence communication strategy, defining and ensuring execution of a plan of poster and oral presentations at relevant events.
Working with marketing and communications, lead the chemistry input into Biosynth's webinar, publications and other channels as required Develop and manage operational budgets for all sites, ensuring financial targets are met.
Facilitate effective collaboration and knowledge sharing between R&D teams at different sites Work closely with production, supply chain, quality unit and commercial teams to align R&D capabilities with market demands and product development.
Support business development and project management functions by ensuring relevant scientific input is provided Drive innovation across all sites by identifying opportunities for new products, process improvements, and technology adoption.
Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) at each site to assess chemistry division performance, research outcomes, and process improvements Candidate Requirements Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry Proven track record (10+ years) in leadership roles within chemistry-related research and manufacturing in the CDMO or pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, with experience overseeing multiple sites.
Solid experience and proven track-record in managing complex process development projects.
Proficiency in process optimization, innovation, and project management.
Good Manufacturing Practice Experience (GMP) is essential Proven track record of leadership and team management in a global capacity Fluency in German and English Willingness to travel frequently (30%) across different countries Strategic thinker with the ability to align divisional goals with overarching business objectives.
Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to address challenges inherent in chemical processes.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across functions and locations.
Strong expertise in organic chemistry, chemical synthesis, process development, scale-up and tech transfer to manufacturing Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, board members, and other stakeholders.
Ability to develop long-term strategies that align R&D with business goals.
Commitment to driving innovation and adopting new technologies that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
