Business Support Services (BSS) Branch is the provider of technical services to GMP.
Vehicle Workshops is the backbone of BSS and along with the fleet and transport departments provides a complete solution for the officers' most important resource; the 2000 vehicles we maintain.
The role of Engineering Officer within Vehicle Workshops is comparable to that of Vehicle Technician in a dealer / fleet operator environment.
The Engineering Officer's role a key part of the support service to the Police, helping to provide safe and reliable vehicles that are available when they are needed.
As a result the technicians are expected to be able to complete repairs in line with manufacturers guidelines and standard times.
Greater Manchester Police operates a large fleet of vehicles mainly under 4 years old and we carry out all work on those vehicles in house.
The fleet comprises mainly Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Hyundai & BMW but with 32 other makes represented in smaller numbers also.
Post holder will have a standard working week of 36.25 hours with a requirement to work 7 Saturday's each year (within the hours 7am – 3pm).
The Job Description for this role is generic across the Service and Maintenance and Body and Electrical departments.
Ideally a dealer background however experience in a large fleet operator would also be suitable.
The candidate will be motivated, have good judgment skills and be able to work with minimal supervision.
A good knowledge of vehicle refinishing/paint spraying and light panel beating skills would be desirable to this role.
You will be expected to complete repairs in reasonable time in-line with manufacturers' guidelines and standard times.
The role involves mainly manual handling tasks and the candidate will be expected to be fit and able to perform lifting bending and stretching.
