Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Secretary/Admissions Clerk within the Urology department based at Colchester Hospital.
This is a full-time position.
This is a key role for the division.
We are looking for a dynamic, flexible, and enthusiastic team player to integrate with the current team and provide efficient and effective secretarial and administrative support to the clinicians, patients, and other team members.
You will have attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritise and plan.
You must be able to work using your own initiative and be flexible to work where the need is greatest.
Main duties of the job In this role, you will provide efficient and pro-active secretarial and administrative support to the large team of busy consultants and other team members.
You will be the first contact for patients and queries on behalf of the Consultants and Department.
You will work as part of a team, supporting other team members and covering when required.
Skills required for the post include good typing and audio skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, effective time management skills, good IT and secretarial skills, and good communication, interpersonal, and organisation skills.

Person specificationQualifications Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Secretarial practices.
Word processing to RSA II or equivalent.
ECDL (or willingness to undertake ECDL).
Experience Proven previous experience as an administrator.
Understanding of the requirements of strict confidentiality.
Proven IT skills – Microsoft packages including Word/Excel/Outlook.
Knowledge Knowledge of Hospital CareFlow system.
Bighand experience.
Understanding of the requirements for strict confidentiality.
Skills Maintain responsibility for own workplace Health and Safety and identify areas of concern.
Must maintain equilibrium in times of stress when dealing with anxious persons either by telephone, letter, or in person.
Ability to prioritise workload and work on own initiative.
Ability to work as part of a team.
