Position summary: To co-ordinate, support and advise the Business on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety aspects.
To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health, Safety and Environment within Recurrent Energy are adhered to.
As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will be part of the Health and Safety team and support the Managing Director in all aspects of Health and Safety and you will be supporting the organization in their achievement of a positive Health and Safety culture.
Responsibilities: Compliance and processes Develop, implement, and maintain H&S policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with national and local regulations, as well as industry best practices.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, unsafe situations and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and near misses, and ensure all documentation is up to date.
Ensure the business is legally compliant with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
Lead the development and review of the company Health and Safety Policy and the associated procedures and safe systems of work (SSOW) and revision of RAMS.
Monitor Health and Safety performance: statistics, metrics, trends, and compliance status to senior management.
Monitor hazards and associated risks and champion programs to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
Establish, organize, and undertake safety tours, inspections, and audit programme.
Manage the Recurrent Energy PQQ process and be familiar with PAS91 when new contractors are engaged by Recurrent Energy.
Assist other Recurrent Energy departments to identify H&S and technical competency requirements.
Maintain records that demonstrate compliance.
Provide Health and Safety advice in the unlikely event of incidents, near misses and/or accidents.
Ensure that events are appropriately investigated, that the findings are documented and that the improvements/changes are implemented.
Ensure that Recurrent Energy is fully compliant with the Statutory Reporting requirements (F10, RIDDOR, ESQCR) Working with others Manage the company from the Health and Safety perspective, delegating responsibilities, coaching members, and identifying training and instruction where required to improve performance.
Champion positive H&S culture across Recurrent Energy.
Coach, train, communicate and enforce H&S compliance across Recurrent Energy.
Provide advice to all employees, senior managers and board members, and where required appointed contractors.
Lead and co-ordinate H&S committee meetings.
Attend weekly/monthly meetings and directly advising the Senior Management Team and Board on all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
Work with and training all employees to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards in the workplace.
Assist HR with the management of Occupational Health aspects of the business to ensure all hazardous operations are addressed.
Liaise with suppliers i.e., insurers, solicitors, occupational health providers etc.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with project managers to integrate H&S considerations into project planning, design, and execution.
Others Any other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time.
Travelling will be required for the purpose of completing H&S audits on sites and team members.
Key skills: Relevant experience in a similar role Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE management, preferably in the renewable energy or construction industry, with specific experience in solar and battery storage projects.
Familiar with Board Level reporting requirements Understanding of UK and EU H&S legislation and good practice Recognized Health and Safety Qualification with 5 years + experience - NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health -Min CMIOSH (Chartered) working towards CFIOSH (Fellow) - Health and Safety NVQ level 6 qualification -Working towards NVQ level 7 qualification - NEBOSH National Diploma for Environmental Management (preferred) Recognized Construction qualification + 5 years' experience: - NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction H&S (preferred) - SMSTS Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (preferred) Strong electrical knowledge: - Understanding and knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition) - Preparing and reviewing LV & HV Rules for PV industry Solar PV and BESS knowledge desirable - Current Codes of Practices and Photovoltaic and Batteries Industry Standards - BESS project experience Experience conducting site inspections, audits, incident investigations, near misses and risk assessments, and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Trained first aid person to recognized level preferred.
Well-organized with the ability to prioritize tasks as required.
Enthusiasm, organizational, analytical with problem solving skills with a positive and flexible attitude to work being reliable and punctual.
Comfortable working in a pressurized environment and to tight deadline and on your own initiative Excellent computer skills are critical to this role specifically MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and H&S management software.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies and third-party consultants to obtain permits, licenses, and certifications as required.
Full clean drivers' licence.
