Job summary An exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Trust Doctor post within the Older Persons Until has arisen.
This post is for an ST1-2 trust doctor in Geriatric Medicine depending on previous experience.
The post is for a period of 6 months from February to August 2025.
Main duties of the job You will work on one of our OPU wards with that ward's team of geriatric consultants, along with a team of SHOs, specialist Medical Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates.
Depending on the situation with the COVID pandemic you may be responsible for patients with COVID or a cohort of COVID contacts.You will be responsible for the regular review and management of the inpatients on your ward under the supervision of the ward geriatricians.
There will also be opportunity to gain outpatients experience in general or specialist clinics.
The post involves working standard days Monday to Friday, with the option of participation in the general medical registrar on-call rota.You will be part of the multidisciplinary team arranging ongoing rehabilitation and discharge.
You will be expected to have very good communication skills and communicate regularly with the MDT, patients and their relatives.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential MBChB, MBBS or equivalent Desirable MRCP or equivalent ECDL/CLAIT or equivalent IT qualification TLHP or equivalent Other Essential Full Driving licence Clinical Experience Essential Experience in inpatient geriatric Medicine Experience working in MDT and discharge planning Desirable Completion of CMT training or equivalent Extensive experience in Geriatric Medicine including subspecialty and outpatient care.
Experience working at registrar level on medical take Clinical Skills Essential Ability to appropriately assess acutely unwell frail older people and initiate an appropriate management plan Strong communication skills with older people, including patients with cognitive impairment, and their next of kin.
Sound understanding of medicolegal framework of geriatric medicine Desirable Specific higher level subspecialty skills in geriatric medicine Ability to perform practical procedures independently eg lumbar puncture Ability to perform Epley test/ Hall Pike manoeuvre.
