Role Overview: We are seeking a passionate and experienced Triathlon Operations Manager to oversee the planning, delivery, and growth of triathlon events.
This role focuses on operational excellence and creating memorable participant experiences, requiring a hands-on approach to event management.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of triathlon event logistics, including transitions, course setup, and participant safety, combined with the capability for team leadership and relationship building.

Location: Office-based in Surrey, with frequent travel to triathlon event sites across the UK
Salary Range: £32,000 – £40,000 per year (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities: Event Operations Management Plan, manage, and execute triathlon events, including swim, bike, and run course logistics, transition zone setups, and overall event flow.
Lead pre-event and event-day operations, ensuring smooth setup, execution, and breakdown.
Recruit, train, and manage event-day volunteers and staff, including marshals, transition coordinators, and medical teams.
Oversee the procurement, transportation, and deployment of event equipment, including signage, barriers, timing systems, and aid stations.
Act as the primary contact for key stakeholders during events, ensuring a seamless experience.
Safety and Compliance Develop and implement detailed event management plans and risk assessments tailored to triathlon-specific needs, including water safety protocols.
Liaise with local authorities, landowners, and governing bodies (e.g., British Triathlon Federation) to ensure all events meet regulatory and permitting requirements.
Coordinate with medical providers and safety teams to ensure participant and spectator well-being.
Business Development & Partnerships Identify and develop partnerships with triathlon clubs, sponsors, and suppliers to enhance event offerings and grow participation.
Foster relationships with charities and corporate partners to encourage their involvement in triathlon events.
Collaborate with sponsors to create impactful branding opportunities on-site and online.
Team Leadership Manage a team of operations staff on event days, providing clear direction and support to ensure high performance.
Assist in the training of staff and volunteers, cultivating a positive and collaborative work environment.
Regularly attend events to lead on-the-ground operations and troubleshoot any issues.
Marketing & Engagement Work with the marketing team to promote triathlon events, ensuring alignment with brand goals and community outreach.
Collaborate with the social media team to showcase triathlon events through engaging content, participant stories, and live coverage.
Essential Skills and Qualifications: Experience: At least 2 years of experience managing triathlon events.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate complex, multi-disciplinary event operations.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of triathlon logistics, including swim safety, cycling routes, running routes, and transition zones.
Organisational Skills: Exceptional time management and the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to engage with stakeholders, sponsors, and participants.
Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends, travel frequently, and adapt to changing priorities.
Driving Licence: Full, and comfortable driving event vehicles, including vans.
