Training Programme Director Gastroenterology - North Central East LondonAn outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology for North Central & East London.
The role of Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions within their specialty, aligned to the NHS England mandate.
The Programme Director will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College and guidelines and standards established within Gastroenterology are met.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of School, other Gastroenterology TPDs, LaSE team including; PGMDE Business Manager, Postgraduate Dean, and other key departments including Quality.
They will work with the Postgraduate Dean to produce doctors who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.
Main Duties of the JobThe Programme Director will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, and guidelines and standards established within Gastroenterology are met.
Responsibilities will include:
To oversee the Specialty's Regional Training ProgrammeSpecialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concernsRecruitment to training posts and programmesPostgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and other related work-streams.The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of training across the region and who will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.
QualificationsMembership/Fellowship of College /Faculty, professional association, and/or bodyAttendance at courses aimed to support educational developmentQualification such as PG Cert diploma or Master of Medical EducationEmployment / ExperienceWorking with learners or doctors in training in educational contextExperience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi professional teamDemonstrable track record of delivery of service and educationUnderstanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges / Faculties, professional bodies related NHS organisationsUnderstanding of the workforce transformation agendaTrained and experienced in recruitment, selection and E&D in the last 3 yearsActive involvement in and up to date with appraisal processKnowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes including understanding workforce mattersApplicants who are doctors require a licence to practicePrevious or current appointment as leader in healthcare educationAwareness of funding streams for healthcare educationUnderstanding of current health and social care and education policySkills and AbilitiesDemonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate othersA strong sense of vision and ability to innovatePolitically astute with an ability to sensitively manage complex and uncertaintyAbility to problem solve and maintain objectivityStrong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skillsAbility to quickly establish personal and professional credibility with key stakeholdersExcellent organisational and time management skillsPersonal development and support others to develop and progressAbility to rapidly establish academic credibilityDepending on experience, salary paid in line with TPD sessional payments.
