Job summary We are seeking a Trainee CognitiveBehavioural Therapist, offering an exciting opportunity to candidates with theright skills and expertise to expand and develop skills and qualifications.The Children and Young Peoples Improving Access to PsychologicalTherapies Programme (CYP IAPT) is a service transformation programme deliveredby Health Education England and partners which aims to improve existingchildren and young peoples mental health services working in the community.
The post available is a training role within The Junctions Children andYoung Peoples Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYPIAPT).
The post holder will work under supervision within The Junction, as partof a multi-disciplinary team, to deliver high-quality, brief outcome focusedevidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild tomoderate mental health difficulties.
The training and service experience willequip the post holder with the necessary knowledge and capabilities to carryout their duties effectively within a well-respected and value drivenorganisation.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, suitablyqualified and experienced person with the ability, commitment and passion to trainfor a postgraduate qualification whilst supporting young people to rise abovelifes challenges.
Main duties of the job To work to provide community based and school basedone to one and group support for vulnerable and disadvantaged children andyoung people aged 5-18 and their parents who have emotional well-beingdifficulties and mental ill health.To work withfamilies involved with social care liaising closely with social workers andother professionals working across children, young people and family services.
To provide, undersupervision, assessments, including risk assessment, of children and youngpeople presenting with co morbidity of anxiety and mood disorders, self-harmand suicidal ideation, phobias and OCD.Make decisions on thesuitability of referrals, with the support of experienced practitioner, andrefer unsuitable young people on to the relevant service or back to thereferral agent as necessary or step up through referral.To select a range ofappropriate therapeutic interventions for children, young people and familiesexperiencing mild to moderate or moderate to severe mental health difficultiesand delivered in collaboration with the child, young person and family.Educate and involve familymembers and other in work as necessary.Attend multi-disciplinarymeetings relating to children and young people where appropriate.Keep records of clinicalactivity, collect routine outcome measures and children, young people and familysevaluations.
Contribute to the collationand analysis of this data.

The post holder will work under supervisionwithin The Junction, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to deliver high-quality,brief outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and youngpeople experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.The training and service experience will equip thepost holder with the necessary, knowledge and capabilities to carry out theirduties effectively within a well-respected and value driven organisation.The post holderwill attend all university based taught and self-study days required by theeducation provider and work in service for the remaining days of the week usingtheir newly developed skills.
Thepost holder will be flexible in meeting the needs of the service by carryingout clinical work across the South Tees areas as the service requires.
SUPPORT: Support will be provided by the Service Manager orappropriate designated person who will carry out regular clinical and casemanagement supervision.

Qualifications Essential Holds a recognised qualification in counselling or psychological therapy Holds a Psychology or other health/social care/ youth related undergraduate degree Ability and willingness to undertake further training and development as required within Job Description Demonstrable commitment to personal development Able to attend one day per week course Able to complete academic components of the course Desirable Holds a recognised membership of a relevant professional body ( BACP/BABCP/BAAT/UKCP/BPS) Is accredited with a relevant professional body ( BACP/BABCP/BAAT/UKCP/BPS) Demonstrable experience of appropriate Safeguarding training Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Essential Knowledge of issues and challenges that vulnerable children and young people face Excellent people skills-Ability to engage, build strong relationships with children and young people to build trust, motivate and empower them to meet agreed goals and outcomes Excellent interpersonal and communications skills Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet the needs of children, young people and their families Ability to work with partner organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors and especially schools.
Able to work as part of a team Understanding of the risk involved in working with vulnerable children and young people Understanding and experience of the need to have and work to appropriate professional boundaries Effective communication skills, both verbal and written and ability to understand and respond to requirements of different audiences Excellent case recording, report writing and case presentation skills Excellent IT skills including competency in using Microsoft word and experience in using data base systems to record sessions and notes Personal Qualities Essential Empathy and understanding of the needs of the client group Personal resilience Friendly and welcoming Ability to work in a developing service and embrace change Energy and Commitment Understanding of and Commitment to The Junctions core values Experience Essential Substantial post qualification experience as a practicing counsellor/psychological therapist Good understanding of cognitive behavioural approaches Demonstrates an understanding of CYP IAPT Experience of working with a children and young peoples mental health service Experience of working in community-based settings, particularly schools, colleges and training providers Desirable Experience of working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating outcomes Recent experience of working with a range of agencies to support vulnerable young people Experience of contributing to organisational development Experience of delivering presentations to professionals and young people Work-related Circumstance Essential Willingness to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend activities.
