Role purpose and overview
The Page Editor will be responsible for repurposing news content from Telegraph.co.uk for print editions of The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph.
The successful candidate will ensure that the news pages for which they are responsible are published to the exacting standards of The Telegraph, and on deadline.
The role requires excellent news judgment, time management, communication, the ability to make quick decisions, the skill of crafting sharp headlines, a keen eye for pictures and detail, and a track record of delivering high quality newspaper pages to daily deadlines.
Key responsibilities
Performing a leading creative role in the print production team to take the best of the Telegraph's digital content and present it in the newspaper.
Focus on key pages and stories in the news pages, under direction from the Print Edition Editor and Head of Production, such as page 3 or the front.
Take digital headlines and rework where appropriate into brilliant print sells.
Repurpose copy for print, such as by combining digital stories into a newspaper wrap where necessary, or knowing when to write a drop intro on to a straight news story.
Make sure the best pictures and graphics are used alongside the stories and the page is designed in the best way to present the articles.
Working with the news, design, picture and digital news desks, ensure the edition is produced efficiently and to deadline.
Key skills
Senior experience of news production at a national newspaper is essential.
The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently and act decisively.
Brilliant and attentive editing of copy, knowing what is required to make a 'splash'.
Ability to work efficiently, make best use of resources and collaborate with colleagues.
A proven record for accuracy and attention to detail; imagination in writing headlines and in the display of pages; an excellent understanding of what makes a good picture, a superior understanding of language and its correct usage.
An understanding of how multimedia digital stories and images can be translated into engaging articles in print.
Effective communication and collaborative skills.
Experience working with Adobe InDesign.
