We are seeking to recruit a Technician to join the Department of Biomedical Services (BMS).
The department provides for the care and welfare of animals in experimental research and in doing so we support the scientific community across the University.
We are, in effect, an internal business with researchers as our customers.
This employment is full-time, permanent, 36.5 hours per week.
We are advertising this post as a full-time position.
Your focus as a Grade 4 technician is the day to day care of the animals, including but not limited to supplying adequate levels of food and water plus changing of the animal cages.
You will be expected to be able to communicate effectively and must show good attention to detail.
You will work mainly as part of a team but will also be expected to work independently with instruction from a senior technician.
You will have a basic understanding of genetics and colony management of rodents and be able to give advice on these topics where necessary.
We are looking for someone who hold an active personnel licence, training will be provided where an active licence or up to date modules are not already in place.
Experience of working in a laboratory animal environment is essential and holds an IAT level 2 or an equivalent qualification/experience.
