Job Title: Technical Underwriter Location: Belfast Abrivia are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Underwriter to join our client, a leading General Insurance Group based in Belfast.
Reporting to the Technical Underwriting Manager, this role will be responsible for setting and continuously reviewing risk appetite for commercial property and casualty classes of business.
This role will operate on a hybrid model of 2 days onsite and comes with an excellent package including bonus, pension, subsidised healthcare and 27 days annual leave on top of a competitive base.
Your Role: Support the implementation of underwriting standards within the company, acting as an expert in property & casualty classes of business in line with the stated risk appetite.
Identifying areas for product enhancements and process improvements.
Crafting underwriting guidelines and question sets to improve risk assessment and streamline the customer experience.
Updating and refining product terms to reflect changes in the market and internal needs.
Creating detailed reports that outline insights and suggestions on product offerings, underwriting scope, and market prospects.
Maintaining relationships with reinsurance partners to ensure adequate coverage levels.
Analysing portfolio performance to identify issues and devising strategic responses.
Designing and delivering training sessions for sales and underwriting teams, focusing on product knowledge, acceptance criteria, pricing, and risk tolerance.
Acting as a business lead/underwriting expert in cross-departmental projects.
Your Skills: Minimum of 6 years' experience within a relevant risk acceptance and rating environment.
In-depth knowledge of the regulatory landscape of the insurance sector in Northern Ireland and the UK.
Strong commitment to professional standards and outcomes, with a proven track record in technical underwriting.
Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and numerical reasoning capabilities.
Excellent relationship management skills, with experience in developing and maintaining successful long-term relationships, both internally and externally.
Demonstrable experience in making decisions across a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios.
