You will be based in our Oxford office. The Rail Design Manager will oversee the planning, design, and execution of rail infrastructure projects. This role involves managing a team of engineers and designers, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable rail solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise in rail design, and a thorough understanding of project management principles.
Key Responsibilities: Leading the design phase of multidiscipline rail projects, ensuring that all design work meets Network Rail specifications and standards. Coordination of survey and design requirements, ensuring robust scope change control. Coordinate internal suppliers, external sub-consultants and surveyors, ensuring that all designs are integrated. Work collaboratively with a BIM Manager to provide an overarching federated model. Ensure the project complies with Network Rail's Engineering Management for Projects (NR/L2/INI/02009). Undertake Designer Risk Logs Reviews and monitor the adoption of the 'CDM Principles of Prevention' by all "Designers" and within design submissions. Support the safety assurance process, attend HAZOP/HAZID workshops and collation of documentation. Input into project programme updates, interrogate supply chain programmes and challenge slippage. Work collaboratively to develop and implement mitigation measures. Support monthly progress and commercial reporting. Support the construction phase with on-site design cover, responding to technical queries. YOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK Profile Chartered Engineer or equivalent level of experience. Educated to degree level in an Engineering related subject or equivalent level of experience. Demonstrable experience of programme & design management within the Railway industry. Membership of an appropriate professional institution. Able to demonstrate experience of managing multi-discipline teams and members. Able to demonstrate clear and concise leadership skills across a multi-discipline team and organisation. Able to lead a team and motivate team members across a range of functions.
