About the Role: The Technical Architect will focus on supporting established platforms and architectures, working closely with software delivery teams to ensure robust and scalable solutions.
This role is not a traditional solution architecture or platform/cloud delivery position but instead emphasises integrating and optimising software applications within the existing ecosystem.
You will leverage technologies such as Java, Spring, Camel, microservices, and others in the stack.
While direct experience with the entire stack is not required, familiarity with related technologies is critical.
This position reports to the Lead Product Architect and involves deep collaboration with multidisciplinary teams using Agile and DevOps practices.
Roles and Responsibilities: Build trusted relationships with clients and act as an advisor.
Encourage cross-team communication to ensure alignment and address strategic dependencies.
Partner with external vendors and suppliers as needed.
Engage in front-end change processes, providing triage support, impact assessments, and high-level solution designs.
Acquire strong business domain knowledge for the areas your products support.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide meaningful business and technical context to product teams.
Own the technical delivery, risk management, and service stability of your products.
Foster a positive technical culture, embracing Agile, DevOps, and quality engineering principles.
Develop product roadmaps, identifying innovation opportunities and aligning decisions with strategy.
Design scalable, robust technical services within your product's scope, aligned with user needs, business objectives, and sustainability goals.
Contribute to project deliverables such as solution architecture documents and operational test plans.
Offer technical leadership to internal and external teams to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
Advocate for the reuse of patterns, tools, and components across teams.
Comply with technical assurance and governance processes, including status reporting, RAID management, and adherence to standards.
Drive continuous technical innovation and improvement, contributing ideas and leading their implementation.
Engage with the technical community to identify and share best practices through blogs, tech talks, or events.
Mentor developers and architects, set technical standards, and support skill development within teams.
Ensure product supportability and compliance with contractual obligations.
Provide architecture responses during operational escalations, business-critical events, and incident investigations.
Participate in retrospectives to prevent future issues and improve incident management processes.
Protect the integrity of the products and ensure alignment with overall service objectives.
Essential Technical Expertise: Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and/or Apache Camel.
Experience with microservices architecture and related design patterns.
Understanding of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with API gateways like Kong EE.
Additional Technology Stack (Preferred Exposure): Messaging and event systems: RabbitMQ, Kafka.
Monitoring and logging: ELK Stack, Grafana.
Web servers and tools: Nginx, Consul, Vault.
Databases: MongoDB, experience with scheduling systems or job schedulers.
Cloud platforms: AWS or similar.
Other Skills: Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps principles.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear deliverables.
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments.
