Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Lead Physiotherapist to join our well-established MSK outpatient service at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.This is a full-time position ( hours per week) on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave from ~ May 2025.The successful applicant will have extensive experience of working in the NHS within MSK and be proficient and confident in the delivery of evidence-based assessment and treatments for a wide variety of MSK conditions.The role will provide operational and clinical leadership to the outpatient team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
On a day-to-day basis, this will include running a complex clinical caseload, managing waiting lists, wide-ranging clinical governance activities, and the line management, supervision, and development of physiotherapy and clerical staff working within the outpatients department.There will also be the requirement to assist the Clinical Lead and Physiotherapy Manager in the continuing development and improvement of the wider MSK physiotherapy service, while delivering on agreed clinical and financial performance targets.The successful applicant will be a proactive and highly motivated individual with a strong commitment to their own continuing professional development, both clinically and in terms of leadership, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to new challenges while consistently putting patients first and fostering collaboration and innovation within the team.
Main duties of the job Workingas an experienced, autonomous practitioner, to provide a high standard ofpatient focused care through advanced assessment, accurate diagnosis,development and delivery of individual treatment programmes for patients withingiven speciality.
To take responsibility of own caseload in area of speciality.Toassist in the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of thephysiotherapy service provided within outpatients at Worcestershire AcuteHospitals NHS Trust.Toprovide supervision, support and education for qualified and unqualifiedphysiotherapy staff, and to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.To participate in departmental audit andresearch in support of evidence based practice.To undertake a team leader rolein planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapy serviceprovided to patients within a outpatients.To advise physiotherapists on the physiotherapy treatment and managementof patients within outpatients.To communicate with the MDT as appropriateto provide comprehensive assessment to determine admission prevention asappropriate to given speciality.Towork alongside the other clinical leads within the speciality to ensure outpatientservices are delivered and evaluated effectively.

To make clinical judgements involving complexand often multi pathology patients regarding potential for rehabilitation.
Suchdecisions may cause some conflict and financial implications.To deliver group sessions where appropriatewithin area of speciality hip and knee pre op group.To be responsible for own caseload withinspeciality and organise all other members of the team in order to provide anefficient service taking into account clinical priorities that can rapidlychange throughout the course of the day.
To ensure that patient confidentiality, privacyand dignity is maintained at all times.To undertake comprehensive clinical assessment,including clinical risk of patients, including those with complex/ highlycomplex, sensitive and multi pathological presentations using advancedinvestigative skills within speciality.Using highly specialised analytical and clinical reasoning assessmentskills to interpret findings and to apply these to the development ofindividual evidence based patient management plans.
Some patients will havebeen referred by a medical practitioner but not examined.To regularly evaluate subjectively andobjectively the effectiveness of the treatment, using appropriate outcomemeasures and to decide when medical review is needed and to adjust treatmentaccordingly.To demonstrate a high level of specialisedskill and expertise in the delivery of treatment to patients, including highlyskilled handling.
To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and manual skills for assessment and treatment of patients.Appropriate treatments are selected from an extensive repertoire ofphysiotherapeutic interventions Normal Movement, Motor Relearning, manualtherapy techniques, respiratory techniques, use of NIV and exercise therapydependant on speciality.
To work in partnership with medical, nursingand MDT to develop services in accordance with local and national service andclinical guidelines.To co-ordinate with other members of the MDTto facilitate discharge planning, participating in weekly MDT meetings, homevisits and progress meetings with patients, relatives and carers.
This isaccording to speciality.To maintain comprehensive, accurate andcontemporaneous treatment records, including valid consent appropriate to theintervention, and discharge report or referrals for ongoing therapy in anothersetting.To liaise closely with other specialist teamsto provide optimal, seamless care to patients.
To act as a source of specialised knowledgeand provide advice to other physiotherapy colleagues and the MDT within givenspeciality.To provide specialist advice, support,training and mentoring to other members of the multi-disciplinary team and allstaff who participate in rotas / weekend / on call working associated withinthe given speciality.To co-ordinate and ensure effective deliveryof rotas within area of speciality with assistance of the ClinicalLead.With the assistance of the Clinical Lead, toaccept clinical responsibility for outpatients, includingmanagement of the waiting lists across the trust.To use advanced judgemental skills and acomprehensive knowledge of physiotherapy interventions to plan individualtreatment programmes of care, reflecting evidence based practice.Communications: To assess capacity, gain valid consent and towork within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent totreatment.To communicate effectively using skills ofpersuasion, motivation, reassurance, explanation and negotiation, with patientswhere barriers to effective communication may be evident, expressive andreceptive dysphasia, altered perception, hearing loss, mental disabilities,pain and fear.
