What skills and experience we're looking for
Working as part of our Inclusion Team,the successful candidate will have high expectations of what all children canachieve.
Regardless of barriers, they will believe that all children willthrive if given appropriate support.
The successful candidate will ideallyhave experience as a SENDCO but will definitely need extensive experience ofworking successfully to support pupils with special educational needs.
They willhold or be willing to take, The National Award for SEN Co-ordination.
This willform a large part of the CPD and support for personal growth in the role.
Inaddition, there will be support from within the Inclusion Team and the widerSenior Leadership Team.
The key features of the role include:
Overseeing the day-to-dayoperation of the school's SEN policy and coordination of specific provision tosupport individual students with SEN or a disability.
Advising on agraduated approach to providing SEN Support.
Liaising withparents of children with SEN. Liaising withother schools, external professionals and independent or voluntary bodies andbeing a key point of contact with external agencies.
Liaising withpotential next providers of education to ensure that pupils and their parentsare informed about options and a smooth transition is planned.
Working withthe Headteacher and school governors to ensure that the school meets itsresponsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonableadjustments and access arrangements.
Monitoring andevaluating provision and progress.
Working with staffsupporting them to try a variety of teaching approaches with students in theirclass with SEN needs.
Deliveringintervention sessions to individuals or small groups.
