This is an exciting time to join the Cardiac Surgical Service in Leeds as it is undergoing a programme of improvement and you will have the opportunity to help support this service through this development.
A wide range of Cardiac Surgical procedures are carried out at the Leeds General Infirmary for patients with Acquired, Congenital and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the cardiac surgical team supporting the CSU in the delivery of key performance targets particularly the quality and experience agenda.
You will support the teams to create an environment of continuous quality improvement ensuring that the delivery of patient care is regularly reviewed and that service developments are implemented when necessary.
Self-motivation is essential along with passion, drive and resilience to cope with change within the Trust and the wider NHS.
Excellent communication skills are essential to be able to influence and negotiate.

Main duties of the job The jobholder will practice under the guidance and direction of the Consultant Surgeon, participating and assisting in operative procedures, pre and post-operative care as necessary.
The job holder will in partnership with the Matron, Theatre Coordinators, Perioperative Team Leaders and Specialist Perioperative Practitioners to provide education, training, and practice development within the surgical speciality peri- operative team based within the operating theatres.
The jobholder will monitor and improve standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence based practice, teaching and supporting colleagues, and will provide skilled professional leadership.
The jobholder will actively contribute to the clinical governance agenda within the clinical management teams.

Job description Job responsibilities Principal Duties & Areas of Responsibility Clinical Provide expert clinical practice to support the delivery of compassionate quality, safe and efficient care that enhances the patients experience Provide support to fellow professionals in the surgical teams, including the junior doctors and develop close working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Participate as part of the multidisciplinary team in admission and preoperative assessment of cardiac surgical patients.
Ensuring correct information is obtained and documented as per Trust guidelines Act as the first or second assistant in cardiac surgical operative procedures providing expert experience and skills during complex surgery.
Undertake specified surgical procedures under agreed levels of supervision and in accordance with Trust Policy including, but not limited to: - Opening and closing wounds (suturing skills) - Tissue dissection - Use of diathermy - Haemostasis - Infiltration of local anaesthetic - Aiding visualisation of the operative field - Application of surgical staplers and surgical guns during operative procedures - Assist with minimally invasive surgery Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team with post-operative care for patients undertaking assessment of potential post operative complications and referring as appropriate.
Provide expert knowledge, training, advice, information and support to multidisciplinary team Work with all members of the theatre team to ensure the smooth, efficient running of the theatre lists.
Be a knowledgeable resource of information regarding perioperative care and operative procedures to patients, carers and staff.
Participate as part of the multidisciplinary team through attendance and active participation in outpatients, medical staff ward handovers and ward rounds.
Develop and monitor and update clinical guidelines, protocols and policies using evidenced based that support safe and standardised delivery of care to patients.
Participate as part of the multidisciplinary team in collection, collation and presentation of data for audit.
Plan and manage own workload and the workload of the service in a flexible manner, ensuring that the service provision meets the needs of the client group Participate in and contribute to relevant Trust committees and groups contributing to developing and implementing local and national strategy.
Undertake duties on other wards or departments as and when required by service demands or patient need Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times.
Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies Education and Training Lead the review and development of training and education programs for the multidisciplinary team.
