Support required £11.44 per hour About Me- I am a 15 year old BOY and I live at home. I am AUTISTIC and still learning to use words to communicate. Due to my Autism I like routines, and find any changes or new things and places can be quite unsettling and upsetting. I am not aware of danger and can run off suddenly which is a risk. I have EPILEPSY which is currently controlled well with medication. I love the outdoors, my iPad and phone, I play rhymes and listen to stories. Your Role - It is important that you have a good understanding of Autism, enjoy being active and have skills/confidence to support me. Support me away from home to give me a break from home, mix with peers.
Help and support me to increase my self care, independence and life skills.
Have a genuine interest and provide me with good quality of care.
Support me to access things and activities that I enjoy in the community.
Support me to access other life skills such as learning shopping skills. Hold my hand to me to keep safe when out and about for crossing roads.
Reassure and help me to calm when I am upset or anxious.
Good communication skills, aim to build trust and understanding my needs.
Help and support me to have my medication as and when needed.
Treat me with respect, kindness and dignity.
Help and support me to explore things and reach my potential.
In return you will have the chance to practice your skills and keep up to date with training as you build your professional journey. Hours and pay - Hours are negotiable and can be flexible depending on the need.
For example, during half term and school holidays you should be available for at least 3 hours at least one day in the daytime to help access activities and outings However, you should commit to at least one day after school per week from 4-8pm to ensure continuity and the opportunity to build a close relationship.
Overnights can be requested but both parties have to be very happy with the plan.
Late evenings may sometimes be requested.
The post will include some paid hours of ANNUAL LEAVE.
If you are a driver you will get mileage pay at the minimum rate.
Rate of pay is £11.44 per hour.
Other additional hours and requirements will be discussed at interview.
Essential/Desirable - Experience and qualifications in caring for young adults with Autism, and other related disabilities.
Must be comfortable with personal care.
Enhanced DBS check will be required.
Act in a capacity of trustworthiness and honesty.
Keep confidentiality. A good time keeper and able to keep a communication diary as, and when needed.
Interview and Start Date - Interview as soon as possible after applications are received.
Role will start ASAP subject to satisfactory employment checks and documentation.
