Job summary Children's Services are looking to recruit a Support Worker to our Team at Gwyn Dowr.Come and contribute to providing a warm and homely environment that offers an amazing experience for children and young people having a short break stay away from their family home.The post holder will be part of a team, contributing to the effective provision of Short break Services to an identified caseload of children and young people with a diagnosis of a learning disability with complex health needs and behaviours that may challenge.The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with the child or young person and their family, always demonstrating sensitivity to them, ensuring the provision of a warm and homely environment that meets their emotional, physical, cultural, religious and spiritual needs.Proposed interview date: TBC Main duties of the job Gwyn Dowr is a small welcoming two bedded home regulated by OFSTED which provides short breaks for children and young people with a diagnosis of a severe or profound learning disability, complex health needs and behaviours which challenge.Your experience and enthusiasm of working with children and young people with complex health needs will be welcomed, but support, supervision and training will be provided.This post will include weekend, bank holiday and night work.This is a permanent post and will be primarily based at Gwyn Dowr, although the post holder may be required on occasion to work at Children's Services other short break homes in Cornwall.

Person Specification Qualifications and Experience Essential NVQ 3 in Child Care/ Level 3 Diploma in Residential social care or equivalent Experience of caring for children with health needs / learning disability Previous experience of working with children and young people in a health, social care, education setting Evidence of continued training/professional development Desirable Experience of working within a residential home or short break provision Training to Level 3 in Safeguarding Children and Young People: roles and competencies for Health Care staff Skills and Aptitude Essential Competent IT skills Can demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills Good listening skills and the ability to deal with complex information that the child or young person and other professionals will share with them Knowledge and abilities Essential Physically able to follow Moving and Handling Procedures and Behavioural Support Plans Good knowledge of Food Hygiene procedures Ability to work flexibly
