The Strategy and Policy Director provides strategic leadership to support London boroughs in achieving shared ambitions, with an immediate focus on:
Devolution to London and the English Devolution Bill and Integrated Settlement.
London Missions addressing city-wide priorities.
The role focuses on lobbying for London boroughs, developing partnerships, and ensuring London Councils remains fit for purpose amidst evolving policy contexts.
Political Restrictions This is a politically restricted role under Section 2 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
Role Responsibility Strategic Leadership Champion shared ambitions of London borough leaders and drive progress toward agreed goals.
Embed values promoting inclusion, equity, and support for the vulnerable across all initiatives.
Policy and Advocacy Lead the development of evidence-based frameworks to guide policy action.
Serve as a trusted adviser to the Chair and senior elected officials, supporting their strategic and policy objectives.
Advocate for London local government in national policy discussions, including lobbying on the English Devolution Bill.
Representation and Collaboration Represent London Councils, building partnerships with practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders.
Foster relationships with borough Chief Executives, Directors, and other key officer stakeholders.
Build links with other regions, especially core cities, to promote collaborative policymaking.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Act as an ambassador for London Councils, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and opinion formers.
Ensure effective communication of London Councils' priorities to members, stakeholders, and the public.
Organisational Values and Ethics Promote service policies that value diversity and inclusivity, reflecting London's communities.
Uphold high ethical standards and lead by example to enhance London Councils' reputation.

Contract details: 1 full-time position with a hybrid working arrangement, including some mandatory office days.
6-month fixed-term contract - open to secondment.
