Job summary *EXCITING FURTHER EXPANSION OF OUR TEAM*The post holder will become a part of the Paediatric Emergency Nursing (PEN) team.
A team of Paediatric Nurses at Band 5 level will work closely with the Paediatric Assessment Units (PAU), and provide in-reach care to children attending the Emergency Care Centre (ECC) at each hospital site.The operating hours for this service are currently 08:00 to 23:00 which has shift patterns covering 08:00 to 20:30 and 10:30 to 23:00.
This equates to an hour shift with an hour unpaid break, seven days a week.
There is a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to oversee the management of this team and provide clinical expertise for children being cared for in an ECC.The purpose of the PEN team is to: see children in the ECC to deliver a high-quality standard of care to them and their familieswork closely with all relevant professionals to ensure there is a collaborative approach to providing care and addressing safeguarding mattersto promote safe and effective care to children 24/7to ensure timely discharge or transfer to an assessment/inpatient bedto educate their colleagues in the care of a child in an ECC and develop the competencies of all ECC nursesbe a good role modelensure positive patient experiences.
Main duties of the job Our Paediatric Emergency Nursing (PEN) team is continuing to grow, and is now looking for further Band 5 Paediatric Nurses, to work with us in caring for children within our emergency department at Scunthorpe General Hospital.The successful applicant will be working closely and alongside the existing team of Paediatric Nurses in the Paediatric Assessment and Observation Unit (PAOU), nursing staff and medical staff in ECC, along with other specialities.We are working in a 'flying squad' model acting as an advocate for children in ECC who are acutely unwell, and their parents/carers, in being a role model for all staff, showing respect for colleagues, always acting with kindness and having the courage to challenge practice that does not meet the needs of children.Experience working with children in an ECC and/or Paediatric Assessment Unit would be an advantage, training will be given for skills required for minor injuries as described in the job description.This position will be based at Scunthorpe General Hospital within our cross-site service.
You will be responsible to a Band 7 Sister working across both sites.Working hours are currently between 08:00-23:00.
There are 2 shifts, one commencing at 08:00 until 20:30pm and the second 10:30 until 23:00.
You would not be rostered a 10:30 to 23:00 shift followed by a 08:00 shift start the next day.
