Job summary Are you a Registered Nurse who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate with an interest in neonates?
We have vacancies for Band 5 nurses, giving you the amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of newborn babies and their families.
You will have supervised time within the unit to gain the experience you need to care for the babies.
Working through competencies in Special Care and High Dependency will give you the background to undertake our in-house Neonatal Course through which you will become Qualified in Speciality (Neonatal Nursing).
This will enable you to care for babies requiring the highest level of support in Intensive Care.The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of the three tertiary centres for the Eastern Neonatal Network and part of the East of England Neonatal ODN.
The unit admits babies requiring tertiary care including surgery and neurosurgery.
A spacious and modern unit, it is part of the Perinatal Centre and is located in The Rosie Hospital.
We have a Bliss Baby Charter Bronze Award and as part of this, updated areas of the unit to improve the neonatal journey for families.
Also hosted in the trust are the Regional transport Service and the core ODN Team, which also offer unique opportunities to staff wishing to broaden their experience outside of the NICU.
Main duties of the job The post holder will participate in care of infants on the neonatal unit within the designated band 5 pathway.Assess care needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
To participate in the supervision and mentorship of non-registered staff.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Current registration with NMC on part one or two of the register Desirable Desire to pursue a neonatal career pathway Desire to undertake the neonatal course Mentorship module Experience Essential Experience in a Paediatric setting or a Level 1, 2 or 3 neonatal setting or experience of working in an adult critical care setting or midwifery Experience of neonatal, paediatric, midwifery or adult or critical care setting if pre-registration Desirable Six months post registration Experience of post registration ward management Knowledge Essential Knowledge and understanding of basic nursing care Awareness of professional issues Desirable Basic knowledge of principles of high dependency or critical care (adult, paediatric, neonatal or midwifery) Evidence of competency to care for SCBU infants in a safe and effective manner Skills Essential Good communications skills Good decision making skills Understanding of professional issues and accountability within own role Desirable Evidence of role modelling Additional Requirements Essential The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Together-safe, kind, excellent Actively promote and value equality, diversity and inclusion, treating others with dignity and respect Compliance with all Trust policies and procedures Evidence of working as an effective team member Demonstration of confidentiality
