Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, registered nurse with a passion for caring for oncology patients to join our dedicated team in the brand-new Christie at Macclesfield.
The SACT Unit, The Christie at MacclesfieldWe are a caring, well-led unit with a good staff to patient ratio.
We are a day case unit offering treatments to all specialties.The Role and TeamOn appointment you would receive a comprehensive supernumerary training package, in which you have exposure to different anti-cancer treatments in different disease group fields and complete the UKONs SACT passport.
You will gain experience in treating a variety of patients with potentially curative diseases, alongside palliative and clinical trial treatments.
During your supernumerary period, you will complete most of your training at main Christie hospital Oak Road Treatment Centre.
We are an innovative and forward-thinking unit dedicated to reviewing and developing the ways that we work for our patients' needs.
We are welcoming to new ideas and would look forward to working with nurses who have a genuine passion for caring for patients in this field.We are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm.
We also open on Bank Holidays.
Main duties of the job To safely administer SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) to Christie patients attending the unit.To provide care for chemotherapy patients and their carers within a recognised framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Christie NHS Trust policies and Health & Safety legislation.

Job description Job responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide a supportive role within the SACT unit at the Christie at Macclesifled for nursing, medical and clerical Staff.Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needsTo give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventionsTo participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge informationParticipate in nursing procedures appropriate to the departmentSupport and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants acting as mentor to designated staffTo welcome patients to the unit and its routineBe able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patientsTo liaise with medical and non medical personnel and community organisationsRotate to ground floor clinic management where required so support in outpatients.To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projectsTo act as support for other nurses in relation to SACT and oncology careSafely deliver SACT to Christie patients attending the unitAssist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needsAssist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit.Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in chargeLiaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levelsHandles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securelyCorrect care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacyAssist medical staff with proceduresDemonstrates the agreed set of values and accountable for own attitude and behaviour EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development planTo complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor packComplete Clinical Skills Training and the UKONs SACT passportAnnually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, AIMs, moving & handling and fire safetyTo complete level 3 SACT administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatmentTo be working towards band 6 equivalent competency pack PERSONAL Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good working relationshipShow professional and courteous manner when answering the telephone and other enquiresMaintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hoursTo be aware of and adhere to all policies including; sickness and absence, confidentiality, uniform and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work ActReport and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policyTo be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that ariseTo show respect for members of the team and endorse the SACT Day Services philosophy of giving mutual support Person Specification Qualifications Essential RGN Level 1 or 2 Desirable Diploma in Health Care Studies Experience Essential Qualification in Adult Nursing Desirable SACT experience Oncology experience Clinical skills Skills Essential Good communication skills Ability to delver high standard of nursing care Desirable Understanding need for evidence based practice Computer literacy Values Essential Ability to demonstrate the organisational values and behaviours Other Essential Team player
