Job summary Overgate Hospice has twelve Inpatient beds and a Day Hospice that provides the highest standard of compassionate & evidence-based specialist palliative care and end of life care for adults in Calderdale, who have active, progressive and life limiting illnesses.However, the current constraints of our ageing facilities are making this more difficult than ever.
Our ambitious redevelopment plans to modernise and expand our existing facilities will transform the environment in which we care for out patients, as well as meaning we can care for more people who need us.
In April 2024, Overgate Hospice launched a capital campaign to raise the funds needed to make these transformational plans become a reality.
Main duties of the job Work with nursing colleagues to deliver skilled, practical, and compassionatenursing careNegotiate clinical options and decisions with the patient, family, andmultidisciplinary teamIdentify hopes and goals of the patient and family and work with themtowards their achievementMonitor both physical and psychological symptoms of the illnessIdentify new problems and discuss options for resolving themDiscover the extent to which carers wish to be involved, particularlywith practical careTeach the skills of practical nursing care to enable carers to manage anddevelop confidenceAnticipate the changing needs of patients and emotionally prepare thepatient and family, exploring the patient and family awareness of the situationTo ensure that nursing documentationis recorded accurately, legibly and that regular reviews of patients careplans are maintainedResponsible for the organisation ofpatient care and the delegation of duties to nursing staff.
To participate inpatient care activities, giving guidance and support as necessary to other teammembersTo workcollaboratively with the multidisciplinaryteam to ensure patients are effectively managedTo work unsupervised and take chargeof the Inpatient Unit when required and to be responsible for the running ofthe Inpatient Unit in the absence of the Ward Manager/SisterTo provide support and guidance whendealing with advice call requests ensuring the On-Call Consultant is contactedas appropriate in line with current procedure About us Look no further.

As we look to continue our work, and expand to give more help than ever, we need a Staff Nurse to help us with our mission.We have a plan in place that will help us prepare for the next phase of Overgates development including a new, state of the art, In-patient unit.
