Job summary Kestrel ward is a Tier 4 In-patient CAMHS Adolescent Unit which provides treatment for young people aged 11-17 years old with a range of with complex mental health needs and risks that cannot be managed in the community.
The unit is based at the North Wales Adolescent Service in Abergele- North Wales and operates alongside an Intensive community support team and Virtual eating disorder service to support the young people of North Wales.
We encourage applications from RMNs, RNCs and RNLD both newly qualified and those with experience looking to specialise or broaden their scope of practice.
We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and forward- thinking staff nurse available to work full or part time to within Kestrel ward.
Prior experience of working with young people is not required, however a willingness to learn and develop the therapeutic skills needed is key.
For successful candidates there will be opportunities for further training and professional development, in line with the complex needs of the service.
Staff wellbeing and support is an important part of the NWAS ethos and the ward offers its team twice weekly staff support sessions as a group, as well as individual line management and clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job You will work within a well-established MDT team consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, family therapy and art therapy.
The role of staff nurse covers a wide range of tasks including assessment and the provision of support and treatment interventions to children and their families.
For these tasks you will require confidence, patience, tolerance and the ability to think creatively to problem solve and overcome challenges.
You will receive ongoing support from your peers, ward manager and senior staff to ensure that you are able to achieve your potential as a Staff nurse with a view to further progression within the service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Mental Health Nurse RN3 First Level , Sub part 1, or/and Registered Nurse Learning Disability or Paediatric Nurse Desirable Up dated mandatory training.
Qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
Experience Essential Experience working within a Multi-disciplinary team.
Experience working with young people.
Experience with individual and group work.
Desirable Experience of working within a therapeutic milieu.
Experience in managing a team.
Skills Essential The ability to communicate with a range of people about difficult matters and /or in difficult situations.
The ability to plan, deliver and evaluate care/ treatment, to meet the young people's health and wellbeing needs.
The ability to plan, allocate and supervise the work of a team of nurses.
The ability to be able to monitor and review treatment plans.
Competency in delivering the Nursing Process Desirable Ability to be creative and have a positive approach to problem solving.
Good organisational skills.
The ability to collect, collate and communicate a range of date/information.
Knowledge Essential The ability to develop oneself and contribute to the development of others.
The ability to monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others.
The ability to maintain quality in own work and that of others.

An understanding of the developmental and mental health needs of young people.
Working Knowledge of the All Wales Child Protection procedures.
Desirable Contribute to service development.
Knowledge of Milieu Therapy modified for Adolescents.
Awareness of current National guidelines and policies in the field of CAMHS.
Other Requirements Essential Criminal Investigation Bureau Clearance.

Ability to work shifts including night duty.
