We are seeking a number of UK-based Speech-to-Text Transcription Editors to join our Court Reporting Legal Services team as Independent Contractors.
You will be required to edit, proofread and check for accuracy legal transcripts that have been produced by speech recognition software and you will aim to ensure that the finalised transcripts are of exceptional quality and adhere to Epiq client style requirements.
The work will cover a wide variety of legal hearings such as disciplinary hearings, meetings, interviews, court evidence, judgments and witness statements, and you will have the opportunity to expand your skills and general knowledge.
You will be undertaking requisite research to ensure the accuracy of the transcripts, utilising any available supporting information and job glossaries.
The role is flexible and you will have the opportunity to offer editing services remotely from home on the days of your choice, depending on your availability and the needs of the business but you will have to be based in the UK in accordance with Epiq's client requirements.
An excellent grasp of the English language with strong emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar is essential for this role as well as a proven eye for detail with the ability to effectively focus for extended periods of time whilst editing transcripts against the audio.
You will be computer literate, adept with new technology and have an aptitude for using automated speech recognition editing software and shortcuts.
You will need to have a laptop, fast broadband internet connection, good quality headphones and a foot pedal.
You will be provided with comprehensive training in Speech-To-Text editing using speech recognition software that will expand your knowledge and contribute to your professional development.
You will be receiving regular constructive feedback on your performance from our highly experienced Speech-To-Text trainers to help you improve your transcription editing skills fast and achieve high standards of accuracy whilst meeting transcript delivery deadlines.
There will be a competence-based progression scheme and the ability to increase your earnings as you become more familiar with the requirements of the role.
A legal background and familiarity with copy typing or audio transcription will be well regarded but is not essential.

Key Areas of Responsibility To conduct formatting, style, content and inaudible checks on automated speech recognition software generated transcripts prior to client delivery, making use of audio and any supporting materials, including glossaries and lists of speaker names To be familiar with Epiq transcription style guidelines in order to identify errors and inconsistencies in transcripts produced by realtime speech recognition software To research specific terms on case subject matter in order to ensure accuracy To edit at 99% accuracy per assignment within agreed client delivery turnarounds To maintain familiarity with various audio playback platforms such as Liberty Court Player, FTR or VIQ To carry out limited transcription as and when required, following the Epiq style guidelines Key Competencies Excellent English language and listening skills Excellent editing and proofreading skills High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and ability to learn new software Ability to manage workload and meet assignment deadlines Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times Copy typing at a minimum speed of 50 wpm Audio typing at a minimum speed of 25 wpm Legal background – well-regarded but not essential Familiarity with copy typing/audio transcription – well-regarded but not essential Previous experience with editing transcripts produced by automated speech recognition software – well-regarded but not essential The Rewards A competitive rate of pay Flexibility – earn extra money when it suits you Ability to work from home on some days Full training in first-rate, sought-after transferable editing skills Applications We thank all applicants for their interest.
