Speciality Doctor - Microbiology

Job summary This is a new post for Specialty Doctor in Microbiology.
It is envisaged that this post would be suitable for a doctor with at least 3-5 years of postgraduate experience who would be interested in exploring infection specialities as a career option or for a doctor with specialist microbiology / infection experience overseas looking to work in NHS and gain UK experience.
The post holder will be expected to contribute with consultant colleagues and peers to the provision of a Clinical Microbiology/Infectious disease services.
Main duties of the job Duties as appropriate to the grade of the post under the direction of the consultants responsible including: Duty Microbiologist role for clinical advice Supervision of the laboratory Microbiology service.
Supervision of and participation in further processing of specimens and interpretation of results.
Authorisation and interpretation of results Ward rounds and referral service as necessary.
Participation in teaching, research, audits as necessary.
Attendance by agreement at the Microbiology Clinical/ management Meeting and Clinical Improvement Group (CIG) meetings.
Clinical Responsibilities Taking routine clinical calls and communication of critical results Attendance at Microbiology antibiotic ward rounds Attendance to Haematology and other MDTs Daily ITU ward rounds with consultant on call Attendance at the Infection prevention and control (IPC) meetings Participation in Clinical Grand Round on Wednesday afternoon (expected) Participation in day-to-day Infection Control activities Participation in Infection control meetings, AMS Committee meetings and others as necessary Participate in Public Health Duties: liaison with the Regional UKHSA laboratory and UKHSA who will provide support in reporting outbreaks, cluster of cases and any other SI to the appropriate authorities.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical activities run in a four-weekly rota and the total is 9PA.
1 SPA is allocated for CPD and revalidation purposes.
This can be worked flexibly with mutual agreement Direct clinical activities include medical and surgical specialties at both Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe sites, ITU at both sites, Buckingham community hospital, Florence Nightingale Hospice and Amersham Hospital, primary care in Buckinghamshire and Virology and Serology work.

Desirable FRCPath qualifications Evidence of Work within the NHS within a department of Infection Knowledge Essential Appropriate level of clinical knowledge Knowledge and application of up to date Evidence based practice Appropriate level of Infection Prevention and Control Desirable Breath of experience outside specialty Experience Essential Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in Microbiology/Infectious diseases Desirable Experience in Microbiology/Infectious Diseases Experience in Infection Prevention and Control
