Job summary We are keen to hear from you if you are a looking for a Paediatric Band 6 Speech & Language Therapy role.An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to be part of a forward-thinking Children's Therapy Team.The post is based in the Wakefield and Pontefract area and you will be part of a team of over 30 therapists and therapy assistants.
The candidate must have a full and valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes.The successful applicant will join the Early Years Complex Needs Team which is part of Speech and Language Therapy Service working in our Child Development Centres based at 2 hospital sites.The role is working with young children, their families and education settings to develop the children's communication.
There will be opportunities to work within a multidisciplinary team and local authority staff as part of this role.
Our Speech & Language Therapists are committed to supporting individuals, teaching staff, support staff and families to promote speech, language and communication skills.
We also support children and young people who use our services is to promote their safe eating and drinking.Post Graduate Dysphagia qualification is desirable but not essential.
There is a robust system for peer support, managerial, clinical and safeguarding supervision.

Job description Job responsibilities To undertake holistic/specificassessments in order to determine a childs Speech, language and communicationneeds then plan, implement and evaluate care and determine goals and outcomesfor children with complex social communication difficulties and other complexearly years difficulties.To workclinically with clients presenting with a wide range of communicationdifficulties including the Autistic spectrum, initiating and promotingexcellence in clinical practice acting as a role model to junior staff.Attend regular appropriate peer supervision.To be aware of and contribute to Risk Management.To contribute to Clinical Governance initiatives.To maintain aculture which recognises and works in partnership with clients and carers,involving them in all decisions relating to care delivery.To work with the Local Authority, private, thirdsector and voluntary services, ensuring effective timely communication betweenall agencies and to ensure all interventions and goal plans are compliedwith.Toliaise effectively with colleagues, other agencies, clients and their carers toensure an efficient system of communication.

To attend multi-agency safeguardingmeetings as required.To attenddesignated meetings and ensure accurate feedback of any changes to clientscommunication and/or feeding difficulties.To participate inclinical supervision ensuring that practice is maintained at high levels and isevaluated utilising appropriate mechanisms.To provide regularclinical supervision for members of the team.To encouragecontributions and suggestions from staff to improve the delivery of high-qualityservice within the department.To be pro-active inself-development by participating in learning opportunities provided through stafftraining and supervision.Maintain and updateskills and knowledge through life-long learning, especially within the sphereof childrens services.To provideopportunities for student training as required and liaise with HEIs asappropriate.To undertake all mandatory/essential training asrequired by MYHT.To take thelead in team developments as designated by the line manager.To maintainstandards in ongoing health information, both electronic and paper-based,ensuring safe keeping and confidentiality, accurate record keeping of relevantdata and profiling.
To input clinical information onto SystmOne as per MYHTpolicy.To maintainconfidentiality, privacy and dignity in relation to the clients and theirtreatments at all times in line with trust policy.Maintain a tidy, clear workingenvironment, being aware of potential health and safety hazards to self, othermembers of staff, clients and visitors.
Report any faults / breakages as theyoccur to the appropriate department.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Essential Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent.
Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
Health Professionals Council Registration.
Desirable SLT postgraduate certificate in dysphagia.
Experience Essential Significant post registration SLT experience with SEN/complex needs.
Evidence of recent and relevant clinical experience of working with children with autism.
Ability to establish good working relationships.
Understanding of current NHS Policy direction and service modernisation.
Evidence of relevant ongoing professional and clinical development.
Experience of working in successful multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Experience of teaching.
Experience of mentoring staff.
Previous work at Band 6 level.
Experience of use of effective outcome measures.
Evidence of recent and relevant clinical experience of working with children with feeding and swallowing difficulties.
Working within an autism diagnostic team ADOS trained.
Knowledge and Awareness Essential Up to date and relevant knowledge of the variety of childhood conditions which impact on development of appropriate speech, language and communication skills.
Considerable awareness of the impacts of SLCN on access to the curriculum.
Willingness to undertake Postgraduate qualification in dysphagia if not already achieved.

Evidence of appropriate communication with people on complex matters and/or complex issues.
Understanding and experience of inter-agency working and services available within health and social care and education services.
