Main duties of the job You will be based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and you will working alongside an experienced team of therapists who will support your clinical development in the specialist areas of head and neck cancer, laryngectomy rehabilitation and voice rehabilitation.You will run outpatient clinics once or twice a week at various locations in Somerset, specialising in managing referrals for dysphagia and voice which are predominately from ENT (Ears nose and throat).Alongside developing specialist skills in head and neck cancer and voice, you will be a key member of the acute in-patient team, providing specialist assessment diagnosis and treatment to acutely unwell patients with a variety of medical conditions.There will be opportunities to develop specialist skills in videofluorscopy and later in FEES.

Job description Job responsibilities To provide specialist assessment diagnosis and treatment plans for patients with communication and swallowing disorders secondary to head and neck cancer across a range of settings including radiotherapy, head and neck clinics, and in-patient wards.
Provision of specialist assessment diagnosis and treatment plans for patients with communication, swallowing and voice disorders (predominately referred from ENT) in outpatient clinics.
To provide specialist assessment diagnosis and treatment plans for patients on general medical and surgical acute wards.
To develop specialist skills in laryngectomy management including surgical voice restoration.
To develop specialist skills in voice rehabilitation across a range of voice disorders.
To develop specialist skills in videofluoroscopy.
To screen and triage referrals To actively contribute to service developments and incorporate these into core services, in areas of communication and swallowing.
To work as a core member of the head and neck MDT To be included in the Bank Holiday rota Person Specification Qualifications Essential BSc in Speech and Language Therapy.
Level 5 Dysphagia Competencies Full UK driving licence Experience Essential Able to teach / supervise and support Speech and Language Therapy students.
Previous experience working with in-patients in an acute Trust.
Desirable Previous experience working with patients with head and neck cancer Previous experience of managing patients with voice difficulties Experience of contributing to multidisciplinary team planning through discussion and negotiation therapy groups.
Experience of running dysphagia training sessions.
Experience of carrying out triage
