Job summary This is an exciting part time role for an MRI Safety Lead Radiographer (Outpatient Coordinator) with excellent organisational skills to oversee and facilitate the process of prioritising, triaging, and investigating MR Safety scanning conditions for patients with implants.
The number of patients with implants requiring an MRI is continually increasing in number and scope.
This is an opportunity for an experienced radiographer to take a lead role to ensure the efficient and timely running of the implant safety service.
The role is key in the effective delivery and performance of the service including PTL management and departmental KPI targets.
The postholder will work closely with the MRI Physics and MRI Radiographer teams and be supported by MR Safety Experts (MRSE) and Senior Radiographers with experience in implant safety.
The postholder will provide training to Radiographers in carrying out routine implant safety investigations in line with departmental protocols and will be responsible for ongoing clinical audit of safety information recorded on CRIS.
Additionally, the role will act as line manager to the MRI safety admin function within the team.
The post is advertised as a Band 6 with career progression to Band 7, based on role development.
Preference will be given to applicants with suitable knowledge and experience of implant safety in MRI.
Applicants with less experience but a willingness to learn are also welcome and will be given training and support.
Main duties of the job To act as Lead MRI Radiographer for implant safety, working with the MRI Physics team and Radiographers, Bookings and other staff / teams.
The role is to oversee and coordinate the process of implant safety investigations from start to finish, prioritising incoming requests and triaging tasks to the appropriate teams.
To carry out routine implant safety investigations in line with departmental protocols, and to support the MRI Physics team for non-routine / complex investigations.
To provide training to Radiographers in implant safety investigations in line with DOPs.
To carry out clinical audits of safety information recorded on CRIS To support the effective delivery and operations of the department including PTL waiting list management and departmental KPI targets.
To adhere to the current MHRA guidelines and work safely within the health and safety regulations.
To supervise Admin staff supporting the implant safety service and provide guidance and support to junior members of staff & students.

Job description Job responsibilities Lead role in the day-to-day running of the complex implant service, supported by the Physics team acting as MR Safety Experts (MRSE), and Senior MRI Radiographers experienced in implant safety.
The role is an integral part of the MRI safety team (MRI Physics and MRI Imaging) and manages incoming requests to the safety inbox etc.
Working as a team following departmental Safety Protocols and MRSE advice to take the patient safety queries / investigations through to sign off.

Undertake safety investigations for patients due to undergo MRI examinations at UHP.
Communicate and investigate complex information relating to patient safety in both the investigative and clinical setting to ensure high standards of radiographic care are provided to patients and delivered in a timely manner.
Provide ongoing clinical training in implant safety to radiographers and other staff as required to support an increased number of staff being competent to carry out routine implant safety investigations in accordance with departmental protocols.
Responsible for carrying out routine clinical audit of the safety advice recorded on CRIS, reporting the findings to the MRI Physics lead.
Implement new processes and checks to continually improve the quality of implant safety information recorded on CRIS.
Attend the safety team meetings where tasks are discussed, prioritised, and coordinated.
Support the effective delivery and operations of the department including PTL waiting list management and departmental KPI targets.
As a senior radiographer you will be expected to be proactive in your work, taking responsibility wherever you are working and supervising junior staff as appropriate to ensure the department is working safely and efficiently.
Investigate and analyse complex information, liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers to find all relevant information regarding implants.
Ensure the information is available at time of investigation and during scanning, ensuring specialist skills and team members are in place to enable safe scanning of patients while in the department.
Accurately document MR safety conditions / scan parameters to allow the MRI team to adapt techniques for these complex exams.
Plan and prioritise the implant safety workload.
Be able to manage the pressures of accommodating urgent requests in addition to planned work.
Be able to assist and advise both specialists and non-specialists in matters pertaining to implant safety under the guidance of the MRSE, using specialist knowledge and professional judgement when required.
As a senior and specialist radiographer, make recommendations on clinical practice to modality superintendent or lead consultant, and assist in the implementation of any change.
Assess information on X-ray requests to ensure it is relevant and can be justified under IR(ME)R 2000.
Request pre MRI radiographs to exclude intra orbital foreign bodies or aneurysm clips in accordance to IR(ME)R 2000.
Comment in orbital radiographs per MRI (upon successful completion of a study programme and audit).
Attend the safety team meetings where tasks are discussed, prioritised, and coordinated.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience Essential Qualified MRI radiographer.
Proven knowledge of MRI safety with demonstrable experience of investigating and assessing implants.
Proven knowledge of all safety aspects of MRI, commensurate with current level of demonstrable experience / exposure.
Computer literate including proven knowledge of using Radiology Computing Systems.
Proven knowledge of regulations and guidance relevant to MRI.
Desirable Demonstrable experience of carrying out audits Able to demonstrate post qualification experience as a radiographer.
