Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced paediatric nurse to join our Diabetes Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to increase access to insulin pump technologies within the Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

As part of a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists for Paediatric Diabetes and the wider MDT, you will manage a caseload of children and young people with diabetes and liaise regularly with Consultants, Health visitors, School Nurses, GPs, tertiary centres, etc., to enable patients to manage their condition. The Specialist Nursing role requires individuals to develop expertise in the specialty, be able to teach and support staff in the clinical areas, undertake research and audit as required, and consider how to gain patient feedback to review and improve services. You should be an effective communicator, motivated and self-directed, and willing to continue to develop professionally. Opportunities to complete the diabetes specialist course will be encouraged to support the development of an appropriate clinical portfolio for enhanced level practice.

Person Specification Qualifications & Knowledge Essential RSCN/RN Child BSc (hons) or equivalent degree appropriate to practice PLUS post-registration/graduate diploma level or equivalent knowledge and experience within the specific field which can be acquired through either in-depth experience or theoretical study of a broad range of techniques/processes relating to the knowledge area Evidence of further professional development Desirable Teaching qualification Knowledge of caring for children with complex health needs Understanding of both acute and community care Needs of children and families including advocacy Knowledge of multiagency & multidisciplinary working Experience Essential Diabetes nursing qualification or willingness to undertake Previous experience in an acute environment Considerable post-registration experience Experience of being a team player Management of own workload Safeguarding training & knowledge, understanding of child protection issues Desirable Experience of caring for children with diabetes Management of clinical area Community experience Research and Audit skills Teaching skills Employer details Employer name
