Optometrists are expected to take on extended roles including, the co-management of children and the monitoring of patients with keratoconus (and post corneal collagen cross-linking patients) in the corneal clinic.
Optometrists are expected to take on a high level of individual professional responsibility and efficiency within clinical optometry, and develop a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and experience.
Optometrists are expected to undertake, after suitable training, advanced, specialised, complex and non-routine work, with responsibility for patient examination and complex clinical decision making regarding ongoing management of patients with a wide range of diseases.
To deliver a comprehensive range of core optometric services and a specialised range of extended role services to the highest standards of quality and care at Bristol Eye Hospital as well as our out-reach clinics: at the University of the West of England (UWE) Weston and peripheral clinics within the community.
To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing optometric assessment, diagnosis and management of patients of all ages, ranging from pre-term babies to the elderly, and who have varying communication skills To participate in the delivery of certain more complex specialist optometric services that meet the changing needs of the service To undertake specific administrative duties as agreed with the Clinical Leads and management To undertake clinical audit and research as agreed with the Clinical Lead To provide optometric teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for various disciplines within ophthalmology.
