Job overview We are looking for a flexible, motivated, and dynamic nurse to join our small, friendly, creative and forward thinking Haemoglobinopathy team.
The newly created vacancy has arisen due to our expanding patient numbers and service needs.
Our well established Thames Valley Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Network, cares for approximately adults and children, with Sickle cell disease, Thalassaemia, and other Rare Anaemias.
The network covers Oxford, Milton Keynes, Swindon, Wexham Park, Reading, and Frimley Health hospitals.BackgroundThe care of this group of patients and families is determined by national Haemoglobinopathy care standards (please see the links to the adult ()and paediatric guidelines (), and .Our specialist network is peer reviewed to the Quality Review Service standards ().In , NHS England reconfigured care for this group of patients and our network.
Oxford is a designated Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team (SHT) and also a Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC).
This means that whilst continuing to manage our own network we also support and have oversite of the Wessex network.
Nationally, this is a really exciting time, and we aim to continue to improve access to high quality care for all patients with these rare and potentially debilitating conditions.
Main duties of the job This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, motivated nurse to develop the skills to be able to work flexibly with both adult and paediatric services, across the network.
You will be part of our whole life service and will be an integral team member.
As a key point of contact for a defined caseload you will provide support, education and information to patients and families.
In addition, you will also be supporting the Education Lead nurse to identify, support and deliver education to stakeholders within our HCC region.
To be our successful candidate you will have a creative, caring and compassionate nature, a strong interest in teaching patients and staff, superb interpersonal skills and the resilience to work in a developing environment.
Your excellent communication skills will enable you to engage with clinical staff, patients and their families in decision-making and self-care and support them in managing their health care needs.
Whilst the role is Oxford-based, depending on where you live, we may be able to allocate local hospitals close to your home.Specific experience within this specialty is not essential as we will ensure you have the orientation, support, education and training required to develop within this role.
