Job summary We have anexciting opportunity for a Specialist in Oral Surgery to join our team based inPlymouth.
This role will be based in our Plymouth Dental Education Facilitiesin Derriford and Devonport initially but will transfer to our new DentalEducation Practice (DEP) in Plymouth City Centre when this opens.
The DEP willprovide an innovative model of care comprising urgent and stabilisation dentalcare, and general and specialist dentistry delivered alongside placements forundergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as trainees undertaking dentalfoundation training.
Main duties of the job This role will involve the delivery of specialist led minor oral surgeryin Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise CIC (PDSE).
The role holders main focuswill be to deliver a specialist led intermediate minor oral surgery serviceworking with local NHS colleagues and other NHS services.
The role involvessome undergraduate and postgraduate oral surgery teaching.
This takes placeacross all our Dental Education Facilities, therefore some travel to Exeter andTruro will be expected.
The role holder will be expected to deliver aclinical minor oral surgery service commensurate with the NHS Commissioningguidance for minor oral surgery and in line with local NHS care pathways.
Therole is clinical and there is an expectation from commissioners that for eachclinical session worked, 3-4 patients will be treated.

The role will also involve some undergraduateand postgraduate oral surgery teaching.WorkingRelationships:There will be close workingrelationships with:Seniorclinical staff of PDSE and academic colleagues from the Peninsula Dental Schoolincluding the Clinical Leads for Exeter, Derriford, Devonport and TruroProfessorof Community DentistryDirector of Clinical DentistryAdministrative and governance staff of PDSEStaff in NHS Commissioning teamsClinicalDutiesClinical duties will be as directed by the line manager and PDSE clinicalleadership team.The appointee will be expected to contribute to the development of localNHS services as directed by the Chief Executive.TeachingThe appointee will contribute to undergraduate dental student teaching(to include clinical supervision) and postgraduate training.
PDSE has a closeworking arrangement with the Dental School and there may be opportunities forflexible working arrangements to develop career progression.ManagerialThe management responsibility of the post-holder will be via the Lead Dentist.The post holder will be expected to attend relevant meetings to discussservice, policy and procedure as directed.ClinicalAudit and Clinical GovernanceThe post holder will take an active part in department audit arrangementsand work closely with the Directors of PDSE to undertake duties as deemedappropriate.ResearchThere may be opportunities to support research in the school relevant tothe role and speciality.
Terms andConditionsThe post holder will be an employee of PDSE and may also hold an HonoraryContract with the University of Plymouth depending on the final job plan.

On the Specialist GDC list in Oral Surgery or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion.
Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for a CCT in oral surgery or equivalent.
Desirable Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FDS) or membership of Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS/MJDF) or equivalent.
Intercollegiate specialty fellowship (ISFE), exit examination in Oral Surgery or equivalent.
Experience Essential Successful completion of an SAC approved training programme in Oral Surgery or equivalent.
Desirable Diploma in Dental sedation, SAAD training in conscious sedation or equivalent.
Aptitude for the surgical management of joint cases with orthodontics and OMFS.
Experience of interdisciplinary team working.
