Job Summary We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Night worker team in the Haematology department.
The role will include night shift working in Haematology and Blood Transfusion, following a period of induction during core hours.
Some Core training days will be scheduled throughout the year to ensure competency is maintained.
Night work attracts a generous sessional payment for each night shift worked, which is in addition to the standard hourly rate.
This could increase earnings up to 50% of the stated salary.
This post is full time, however part time would be considered.
The department is equipped with Werfen ACL-TOPs, Beckman Coulter DXH and Ortho Vision.
The main IT platform for both sites is Winpath Enterprise.
Pathology First operates over three sites using a Hub and spoke model.
Our Hub site offers a high throughput service for our non-urgent community work and specialist haematology and coagulation tests.
Our two Essential Services Laboratories (ESL) at Southend and Basildon Hospitals provide urgent testing for inpatients and a full blood transfusion service.
The main responsibilities of the role are listed below.
To be able to rotate through all areas of a Laboratory as required (dependent on qualifications, experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high Professional standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.
To perform and interpret routine and specialist biomedical investigations autonomously to provide patients results within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior staff.
Work independently, implement and propose changes to procedures for own work area.
To continue with personal development through academic and/or practical experience.
To provide professional leadership and training to Basic Grade, Trainee Biomedical Scientist, Associate Practitioners (equivalent grades) and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
To provide professional leadership and training to Basic Grade, Trainee Biomedical Scientist, Associate Practitioners (equivalent grades) and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
To maintain the standards of conduct required by the Health Professions Council to practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist.
To provide technical advice to clinicians as to the appropriateness of tests and timescales.
Qualifications and experience required.
HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist At least 2 years post registration experience in Haematology/BT specialism Specialist portfolio in Haematology and BT or equivalent Evidence of participation in CPD.
Ability to work across different sites in a 24-7 work environment if/and when required.
