Job summary A newly created vacancy for a Nursing Associate is now available within Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) Children and Young People's Special School Nursing Service, based in the Brighton area.
It focuses on the clinical and associated public health nursing of children, young people and their families.
Applicant will be required to work across 2 Special Schools in Brighton.

The Nursing Associate will provide a mixture of general and specific high quality, skilled care to Children & Young People (CYP) in the Special Schools and will be proficient and competent to work at their registered level.
They will work alongside Special School Nurses and Allied Health Professionals, and in partnership with Education.
The post holder will have completed their Nursing Associate training and be registered with the NMC.
Nursing associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a nurse associate, and according to their professional code of conduct (NMC 2015).
The Nursing Associate will be both directly and indirectly supervised by a Special School Nurse.
The post holder will become competent and proficient in the field of Special School Nursing by undertaking training and competency assessments specific to their area of clinical practice.
Main duties of the job The Nursing Associate will deliver care within their proven competency as achieved during their Nursing Associate Training.Recognise changes in a CYP's condition and seeks prompt assistance from a senior Special School Nurse and/or paediatric consultant, GP or emergency services as appropriate.Contribute to the planning, implementation and monitoring of CYP's care as part of the Special School Nursing Team.Using recognised assessment tools including PEWS, NEWS2, MUST and Purpose T to risk assess, record and act upon CYP's changing conditions.Treat and monitor CYP under the leadership and direction of a Special School Nurse.Monitor CYP according to their individualised care plan.Plan and implement non-complex tasks and interventions guided by standard operating procedures and competency achievement.Contribute to CYP's review, care planning and delivery of careProvide support, training and supervision to others.Maintain clear concise and legible documentation adhering to standards in accordance with NMC and Trust policies.Liaise and refer patients to the MDT team as appropriate in accordance with local procedures.Participate in clinical audit.Attend regular reviews with your team lead and have yearly appraisals.Undertake a link role as required.Act as a professional role model.Support the implementation of departmental policies and contribute to team and service development.

Job description Job responsibilities The Nursing Associate will deliver care within their proven competency as achieved during their Nursing Associate Training.They will be supported by the Special School Nursing Team and supervised by their appointed mentor who will be a senior Special School Nurse.Contribute to the planning, implementation and monitoring of the CYPs care as part of the Special School Nursing Team.This role will include supervision and teaching of trainee or newly qualified Nursing Associates.Maintain at all times a kind, caring and professional attitude towards CYP, their families and colleagues within the clinical setting, taking into consideration dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, alongside cultural and religious needs.Recognise changes in a CYPs condition and seek assistance from a senior Special School Nurse, GP, community paediatrician or emergency services as appropriate.
This will involve using recognised Assessment Tools such as PEWS or NEWS 2 to assess, record and act upon recognition of a deteriorating CYP.Provide health and care information to the CYPs, carers and family as appropriate.Monitor and evaluate individual care plans.Provide skilled paediatric nursing care and clinical interventions such as enteral feeding, oral / nasal suction, management of long-term ventilation, catheterisation and seizure management to children and young people as per competency within the special schools.Maintain clear concise and legible documentation adhering to standards in accordance with NMC and Trust policiesAdhere to the Medicines Management Policy in the storing, administering, recording & disposal of Medicines within the scope of the role.To attend all mandatory and statutory training including infection prevention and control.
The Trust is committed to delivering a higher standard of customer care and therefore it is compulsory to ensure that you have undergone induction training within three months of your appointment.Adhere to the Trusts Uniform Policy.Adhere to Trust and Local Lone Worker Policy and ProceduresBe responsible for own personal development, including keeping up to date with Mandatory training and training relevant to the area of practice Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register Experience Essential Experience of caring for CYP in a healthcare setting Understand requirements for NMC professional revalidation Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with CYP / Relatives and carers and all members of the MDT Flexible to cover service needs, including week-ends, out of hours or shift pattern Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development Skills & Knowledge Essential Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual CYP contact Other Essential Car driver and access to a car for work purposes Flexible to cover service needs
