Job summary Thepost holder will be a valuable part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team whoprovide effective patient centred care to the spinally injured patient.
Theywill act as the Trusts nursing clinical lead for the Spinal Injury patients.Providing expert tailored treatment, advice, consultation, support and guidanceto patients, carers and referring trusts whilst working as a highly skilled,expert and autonomous practitioner liaising within multi-professional teams topromote and provide seamless pathways of care.
The post holder will workclosely with consultants to manage patients appropriately and gain support andadvice to ensure continuity of care.In order to be considered forthis post, you must hold the relevant UK NMC registration or be in a positionto successfully apply for this at the point of your application.

Main duties of the job TheYRSIC offers specialised rehabilitation to people with a spinal cord injuryleading to neurological deficit.TheYRSIC provides care to people who have sustained damage to the spinal cord atany level resulting in a change, either temporary or permanent, in the normalmotor, sensory or autonomic function of the spinal cord as a consequence ofinjury or disease.Weare committed to providing life-long care to spinally injured patients.Consequently, healthcare provision is accessible in the event of necessaryre-admission for those who have developed complications of spinal cord injuryor for those who require further rehabilitation.Weprovide a dedicated multidisciplinary team of the following services: Medical,Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical PsychologyThemain duties within the job role are caring holistically for patients withspinal injuries, we admit directly from the main trauma centres, accepting awide range of patients with a mixture of acute spinal injuries.Wealso accepted patients back for further rehab, Urological surgeries, Pressureulcer repairs, Intrathecal pump insertion and continued careTheteam are very passionate and dedicated to providing care to Spinal CordInjuries and you will be made to feel very much part of our MDT who display thevalues and behaviours of the Trust, working together to ensure one another issupported.

Advise on the promotion of health and preventionof illness, teaching patients and their relatives where appropriate.Ensure patient and user involvement and feedbackis instrumental in improving practice through appropriate education andtraining over a wide range of sites and disciplines both within the Trust andpublic arenas to raise awareness.Supporting and enabling professional developmentof team members.Undertaking own personal development to meetidentified needs.Contributing to the mentorship of colleagues asdirected by the ward sister.Ensuring statutory training is undertaken.COMPETENT PRACTICEThe Registered Nurse will combine theory and experience to demonstrateclinical competence in practice.This will be achieved by:Monitorreferrals via the National Spinal Cord Injury Database.Providingexpert tailored treatment, advice, consultation, support and guidance to patients, carers within referring trusts.Prioritise patient admission from referringhospitals/community settings to optimise bed occupancy.Support, enable and assist the patient with aspinal cord injury to actively participate in their rehabilitation programmecreated by the multidisciplinary and encourage and promote physical or verbalindependence in all aspects of their care.Delivering direct care to patients in accordancewith National and Trust policies and NMC Guidelines.
To participate in multi-disciplinary wardmeetings and case conferences in order to proactively identify appropriatereferrals and support.To provide specialist assessment for patientswith complex health needs.Continually assessing and evaluating thepatients condition and the effectiveness of the care delivered with seniormembers of the team and ensures plans of care are updated as appropriate.Assist patients and carers with appropriateeducational programmes, to include, but not limited to, bowel, bladder and skinmanagement, assess effectiveness and understanding of training and adjust plansas required.Promoting a multi professional approach tomaximise the patients health and independence utilising resourcesappropriately.Maintaining up to date knowledge of currentnursing issues/practices.Following appropriate training and assessment,use prescribed rehabilitation equipment within the department at the directionof the MDT.
Able to demonstrate knowledge and skills relatedto airway management including, but not limited to, assisted coughing, trachealsuctioning cough assist.Is able to break bad news to patients andrelatives in a professional and sympathetic manner.To motivate and encourage patients, providingadvice and equipment as appropriate.Participate in case conferences, MDT meetingsand reviews as appropriate.To maintain and promotedepartment/multidisciplinary communications.To independently manage nurse-led and MDTclinics, making autonomous decisions and providing clinical interventions andadvice.
To develop self-care management programmes.To maintain own professional development withinthe statutory requirements of the NMC to include, maintaining and improvingknowledge and expertise in current developments, nursing management andpractice, attending courses, study days, etc.
