Job summary Provide a high quality, comprehensive and professional administration service in support of the clinical activities undertaken on the Surgical Emergency Unit.
Main duties of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to become part of a friendly team of ward clerks based within the Surgical Emergency Unit(SEU).
The successful applicant will be asked to work within the SEU Triage assessment area, where 24/7 ward clerk cover is provided so the post holder will be asked to work day and night shifts, weekdays and weekends, as part of the administration team to ensure the smooth running of SEU Triage.
The post holder will provide excellent customer care that demonstrates a caring and responsive approach to those attending the hospital, be able to accurately record and input data into the Trust's EPR system in a timely manner and file departmental records containing sensitive patient information while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.You should enjoy communicating with a wide range of people, be highly organised and have a flexible approach to work.
Attention to detail and good keyboarding skills are essential.As a new member of the team, we offer a supernumerary period of training to help you settle in.

Job description Job responsibilities The overall purpose of this role is to provide a high quality, comprehensive and professional administration service in support of the clinical activities undertaken on the Surgical Emergency Unit.Main responsibilities To be responsible for the reception of patients, relatives and carers and ambulance staff in a calm, professional and polite manner To provide excellent customer care that demonstrates a caring and responsive approach to those attending the hospital.
Use tact, diplomacy, understanding and compassion when communicating with patients and visitors who may be distressed To answer telephone calls from referring doctors regarding the admission or transfer of patients to the SEU and ensuring this is communicated effectively to the on-take clinical team Collect personal and confidential information from patients or relatives in order to complete the admissions process.
Data may be collected at the SEU Triage reception area or directly from seriously ill patients who have been taken directly to a trolley or bed within the unit.
To accurately record and input information into the Trusts EPR system in a timely manner To collect and accurately input information into the SEU databaseTo complete the admissions process within SEU Triage, printing labels and wristbands for all patientsScan patient documentation into correct patient records in EPR in accordance with Trust guidelinesTo ensure the tracking and requesting of medical notes for SEU patientsFile departmental records and organise the culling of filed notes in accordance with Trust guidelinesTo ensure that information on overseas patients is entered accurately onto EPR, to ensure appropriate charges are incurredPhotocopying and other general office proceduresTo deal with general enquiries to the unit regarding patients, both internally and from external agencies such as Police, other health care workers and insurance companies ensuring that they are directed to the correct department of the Trust To work as part of the combined SEU team, providing administration cover where necessary at times of peak workload and / or unavoidable absences or shortages of staff as requested by the management team To understand own role and involvement in a Major IncidentTo contribute to own personal development, through attendance at mandatory training and annual appraisal To participate in the induction and training of new members of staff within the team Person Specification Shortlisting criteria Essential Education - Good general level of education, GCSE or equivalent in English Good IT skills NHS experience or experience in customer service environment Special skills - Analytical and judgement skills Attention to detail Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels Excellent keyboard skills Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines Ability to work effectively under pressure Able to work without supervision Willingness to attend further training as required Flexibility in approach to work and the changing needs of the service Desirable Education - Recognised IT qualification
