The Role: As a Service Designer, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, UX designers, developers, and software engineers, to design intuitive and user-centred public services.
You will lead the design process to create seamless service experiences that meet user needs while aligning with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
This role requires Security Clearance (SC) and strong public sector experience.
Key Responsibilities: User-Centered Design: Engage with user research to understand user needs and journeys, ensuring service design solutions are grounded in user insights.
Prototyping and Testing: Develop and iterate prototypes to test, validate, and communicate design concepts, enhancing the service based on feedback.
Collaboration: Work in agile environments with developers, researchers, and other designers to translate concepts into effective, user-centered public services.
GDS Alignment: Ensure service designs align with GDS standards, maintaining accessibility, usability, and user-friendly interactions across all services.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with stakeholders to align design decisions with user needs and departmental goals, supporting decision-making at senior levels.
Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing services, identifying areas for enhancement and aligning them with user and business requirements.
Requirements: Security Clearance: Must hold active SC clearance.
GDS Experience: Strong understanding of GDS standards and experience applying them in public sector environments.
Proven Service Design Experience: Extensive experience in service design within government or public sector settings.
Prototyping Tools: Proficiency in design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
Research Application: Ability to translate user research insights into actionable service designs.
Agile Practices: Experience working within multidisciplinary, agile teams.
Key Competencies: Expertise in creating seamless, user-centred service designs that meet accessibility and usability standards.
Proficient in prototyping, iterating, and validating service concepts that address user needs and improve service delivery.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and negotiate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
