Job summary This role will be a key leader in the Student WellbeingServices (SWS) team, whose vision is for students to get the right support, atthe right time so that they may thrive at university.
This means that we recognisethe intrinsic relationship between personal wellbeing and academic success.
Wework with a student first ethos within an information, advice and guidancemodel.
Leadership of this service involves a strengths focussed, collaborativemindset which can support a large team of skilled staff through instances of high stakes, complexsystems management.
The role is one of two Senior Managers, leading on allaspects of operations within the Student Wellbeing Service, managing a group ofcasework managers and reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Wellbeing.The service is undergoing a phase of transformation toensure quality, consistency and accessibility for our student community and islocated within a multi-layered, ambitious higher educational environment.Additionally, the post holder has unique oversight of and responsibility for studentsafeguarding and critical educational welfare processes.
Main duties of the job Taking the lead in reviewing insights and evaluating thequality of our services, using evidence-based analysis to enhance SWSperformance and identify opportunities for development.
This will be varied but should include meaningfulcollaboration with key stakeholders, effective practice oversight and evaluationas well as sound use of data from several sources.
Leading and supporting a large service to adopt and apply aninformation, advice and guidance model of general support, whilst maintaining astringent approach to student safety, welfare and educational success.Enabling a customer first culture to flourish, whilstmaintaining service boundaries and avoiding mission drift.
Supporting and nurturing Wellbeing Managers to manage complicated and high-risksituations; providing advice, decision making and development opportunity.Applying insight and developing a rationale for excellent people management toensure that all staff are given opportunity to perform to the best of theirability and that, as necessary, procedures are applied appropriately andeffectively.
Partnership working with a wide range of internal andexternal stakeholders to ensure that SWS communicate clearly and purposefullyto articulate their role and achieve their impact.
About us StudentLife and Wellbeing play a key role in the success of our students, working withthem to provide advice and support to promote positive mental health andwellbeing and build communities.
The service comprises two large teams, theStudent Wellbeing Service and Residential Life.
Student Wellbeing includes ourWellbeing Access team which responds to initial requests for wellbeing supportand a team of staff who work proactively with students to provide appropriatesupport and proactive interventions, working in partnership with academiccolleagues and specialist internal and external services.
Residential Lifeprovide 24/7 support to students living in residences and work in partnershipwith other University services and Bristol SU to deliver a range of proactiveactivities and events to students to build communities and develop a sense ofbelonging.
Our work covers a broad range of issues, with a focus on deliveringa high quality service to our students.

Person Specification Experience Essential Professionally qualified/relevant degree, plus significant hands-on experience in similar or related roles.
Or Proven track record of relevant extensive work experience, demonstrating deep, specialised and or broad knowledge of a field of work gained through experience in a series of progressively more complex roles.
Authoritative knowledge of approaches, work practices, processes and procedures relevant to supporting student wellbeing and residential life, including broader sector awareness.
Knowledge and experience of supporting students impacted by sexual violence and other forms of unacceptable behaviour.
Extensive experience of working with students or young people in an advisory and support capacity, including crisis management, while maintaining appropriate record Please refer to the job description for the FULL essential criteria.
Desirable Knowledge of the work of others inside and outside the University relevant to supporting student wellbeing.
Extensive awareness of developments in higher education and the external professional environment that impact on the role.
Awareness of the current and future activities of the University in relation to supporting student wellbeing.
